But...everything has to be done for the family you know! The poor lambs only go to Spain on holiday, they don;t take the plane, they don;t speak English, it is extremely complicated and painful to get themselves to Southampton from the South of France...

I am going to sing an English song to my OH as a first dance: my mom said "you gotta translate one verse for us so we can understand"...

Errr,,, I came to the UK when I was barely 18 and I managed and if it's complicated for them to come here, how do they think it is for us to come over for xmas? Easy as pie?

Mom even suggested I had to book the hotel for the whole family on my credit card and they would all give me cash later on.

I am not unhappy they are coming, but mom makes it such a big affair of them having to travel that it takes the whole fun out of it.

Yeah Jinky, for years I have ignored whatever my mom had to say: thank god for MSN... the fact you don;t see people face to face makes it easier to not get upset.

No strangely enough, she has been great for some things like did not question that one of my bridesmaids was a lesbian or that I want a bridesman... She has this idea that everything has to be done for and by the family. They are spaniards and weddings last for 3 days and it's usually the parents/grandparents inviting everyone over, hosting BBQs and all the uncles and unts put everyone up. So I can understand it is a shock to the system and completely aline to what they know, but at the same time: they are all adults at the end of the day.
