Please can anyone help me?
I used a price comparison site to get a quote for my partners car. found one through One Call, went to their site, checked details were correct and paid initial payment of £35 with the remainder to be paid via direct debit. Received documents through the post a 5 days later and the details were incorrect as there was a limit on mileage which did not appear on the original quotation. As the policy was not what i had asked for or been quoted for I telephoned to get the policy cancelled. They tried to quote me again but it was far too high and so i said said I would go elsewhere. I was tranferred to the cancellations dept to cancel policy and get a refund on what i had already paid and was told to call back as no-one was available to speak to. Called back and was then told cancellation dept was closed and to call back the following day. I called back the following day and had the policy cancelled. I was then told that there was an outstanding amount to pay as the policy had been running for 8 hours! i am now being persued for the sum of £150 but as far as I am concerned i tried to get the policy cancelled as soon as I realised there was an error so surely they should refund me the amount i had already paid.
I have made several telephone calls to rectify the situation and I am met with the same response that I filled in the details and therefore this is what the quote was based on so I am at fault. I did check the details and they were correct so i do not understand how on receiving the insurance documents they were all wrong. The last call I made I was told to send copies of the new insurace i had taken out and then they would cancel the policy as they could make it though the policy had never existed. I sent the documents that were requested and then yesterday I received a letter saying if i don't pay in 7 days it will be passed to a debt collector.
Sorry this is a long one but I would be grafteful for any further help on what to do next as i do not seem to be getting anywhere.

Tell them you want to cancel under the 14 day cooling off period which gives you 14 days to cancel within 14 days of you RECEIVING the policy documents if the policy is not suitable.
Most companies cancel without penalty, some companies charge an admin fee of circa £25ish.
P.S Well done for reading your policy and spotting this, most people don't read their documents and would have not noticed0 -
If I was you, then I'd go through the exact process that you did when you first applied and keep copies of all the pages that you go through. Then if you again are not prompted anywhere for mileage ring them up with the evidence. But remember to also look in the various links that may come up such as "Important terms and conditions" or "Assumptions".
I had the same kind of situation with my contents insurance. The policy came with an additional endorsement that was not mentioned during the application - when I cancelled they tried to put on a cancellation fee, but as soon as I rang them up after noticing this, they refunded the fee when I explained the situation.
What is the £150 for, is that the cancellation fee, or has this been in dispute for a while and it includes various other fees.0 -
I have no idea why they want me to pay £150. I have been trying to telphone them all day without success. I had the phone put down on me 3 times and on the fourth time of phoning I was told someone would call me back...... that was at 3pm and i'm still waiting.
I have read their 14 day cooling off period clause and it does state they will charge £28 for admin costs. I paid £33 as a deposit so this covers their admin fee so i have not got a clue why there are additional charges.
I will try and call again tomorrow. The only other option is putting it all in writing again and see what happens.0
