I'd tell that family member to get stuffed personally! I know many ofsted graded outstanding teachers who did the PGCE route! How can you be doing it for the wrong reasons? Only those that want to teach go into teacing as it's not exactly the easy option!! You'd have to be off your trolley to go into teaching if you didn't want to teach lol

As far as teaching in college a PGCE qualifies you to teach 11-18 (which includes A-levels etc and also gives you QTS so you have the option to teach in an 11 - 18 school or a college) where as the FE PGCE which qualifies you as 14 - 19 doesn't always come with QTS (check this!) and where this is the case you could only teach in a college which narrows your options considerably when finding a job.

When you do an 11-18 PGCE you can however choose to be assessed at KS4 & KS5 and still gain QTS but my tutor advised me against this as he said that being assessed at KS3 & KS4 would not prevent you from teaching KS5, however, only being assessed at KS4 & KS5 would prevent you from teaching KS3, which would again narrow your options in finding a job. I understand that you'd rather teach at college but you may need to use a secondary school as a stepping stone. You've been made redundant so you don't want to train to be a teacher and be in the position of no job once you've qualified - do your research to see if there is a need for Business Studies tutors in colleges!

Do let me know how you get on - pm me if you wish x

alot of the reviews are from people doing jobs other than the work at home raters jobs also alot may depend on the actual location the reviewers work at

I've done this for just over a year and as I am disabled and spend alot of time at home sitting down it suits me

Exactly, Lindsay. I'm enjoying it so far - I'm studying for a degree at home with the OU, and have been looking for a job for a while. This opportunity gives me loads of flexibility to do my studying, continue to search for a full time job etc.

Where's everybody else up to in the application process?
I'm assuming that those of you who are waiting have all applied for the Internet Judge role?

Are you waiting on results for Pre Screen test or not even heard back from your initial application?

    Hi all,

I've just been filling in the online application for Lionbridge and when I get to the 'Data Overview' page there are a lot of fields that are blank.

When I return to the pages where I (presumably) should be given the option to enter this data (e.g. 'Form of Address', 'Date of Birth', 'Sex' should (I assume) appear under the 'Personal Data' tab) there are no fields for them. As a result there is a lot of information missing from my application.

The only fields that appear on the 'Personal Data' page are: 'First Name', 'Middle Name', and 'Last Name'.

Has anyone else had a similar problem, better still does anyone else know the solution?

I'm using IE Explorer 8 (if that is significant!)

Any help would be much appreciated!

    CAL.

OK, I've just downloaded Mozilla Firefox and have opened the Data Overview page in it. Bizaarly, the fields that were blank - and that I hadn't been able to fill in in IE have now disappeared.

I still can't fill in the fields for 'end date' in the 'Candidate Profile' -> 'Work Experience' page. As a result, in the Data Overview page, the End Dates for my periods of employment are just given as the default 'Open'.
There also do not appear to be fields that allow me to fill in the Industry, Funcional Area, and Hierarchy Level fields.

Finally, another little niggle, I worked in Glasgow, but there is no option for either 'Glasgow' or 'Strathclyde' in the 'Region' dropdown (I've just opted for 'Argyllshire').

Can anyone who has gone through the online application recall if they had an End Date option that they could fill in on the Previous Employment page? Do you recall any of the other ones appearing for you?

    Thanks,

    CAL>

I could find an end date option on my form, I filled it out in Firefox. Though I did find the form a little temperamental. You can attach your CV too which helps clarify things. I added my degree cert too as proof of english competency. I couldn't enter my regional area as it wasn't listed, so I left that blank. My application took 6 weeks from start to being accepted :j
