B and Q - advice needed

I was bought a garden fork from B and Q Xmas 2007, which was a nice one, which came with a "25 year gurantee". Recently one of the prongs of the fork broke off when I was digging in the garden.
I took it back to B and Q who said that as it was over 12 months old, I would have to speak to the manufacturer. They could not replace it as they did not sell that model anymore, and I had no reciept for it to prove it was bought at B and Q and not some other shop that sold that make. I argued that my contract was with B and Q not the manufacturer, but they could not help.
Can I go back and insist they replace with a fork of equal quality, or without a proof of purchase am I knackered?
Any advice would help

Without proof of postage you are indeed knackered
