Im not actually thinking about booking a flight now I just need to get an idea of cost so I can start saving! It's cheaper than I initially thought so im not too worried.

I am aware its very different from getting a train! I'm somewhat restricted travelwise through family circumstances so im not sure how feasible a test flight will be although its a great idea. My friend is coming over from LA to visit next year so maybe I can fly with her to Edinburgh for a weekend or something.

Even with cheap flight prices that you've seen and that i've quoted, personally, i'd try get a target of £500 for a flight to LAX, then if they are more expensive than this year (we have no clue what the economy is going to do) then you won't be disappointed...

no problems at all.. i've not flown to LAX myself, but done 12 or to TATL flights in the past few years, so i can easily help with any questions you have over the forthcoming months... especially the whole connecting flights in USA, as that bit is a minefield in it's own right for someone who hasn't been before..
