Which (brand) new car to buy please?

Thanks, all. Still confused, but have put it down to the i10 or the Yaris (the Yaris seems the better bargain, and I can afford it. Although by 'affording' it, means less money for a house-purchase in a more expensive area! So perhaps more car for less house!).
Oh dear. I don't mind the lead times, but the problem with the i10 is that the nearest dealer prepared to sell to me (or return my phone calls) is North East England and I am North West. Of course, I have no idea where the Yaris is!
Re the Fox and Toyota numbers, I got them from Jonathan at Carfile.net.
Thanks for your replies.

I believe the VW Fox is built in Brazil.hewhoisnotintheknow wrote: »out of those avoid the german, over priced, too many problems with them"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect." - Mark Twain0 -
If all you use it for is a motorized shopping trolley then an Aygo with the rear seats folded flat will fit a washing machine in!
There's no law that says you can't drive around with the rear seats down and if you hardly ever take passengers it gives you tons of room.
And the next tax disc you'll buy will cost you £20 for the year.0 -
I would test drive them. Buying the cheapest is all well and good but if you dont like the car then it is pointless spending the money in the first place.0

I would look at the Yaris !! Toyota dealers seem to be better than VW dealers on the whole !!
Ask at the VW dealership and at the Toyota dealership for service costs for the 10,000- 20,000-30,000 it may swing you one way or another .
But the most important thing is how do the cars drive !! which is the most comfortable in regards to space and ride quality !!
Having bought Toyota's for a long while and I have always found the dealers good and the cars reliable !1 I have used Jonathan at carfile before and he was very good and can recommend the company as I did to Hethmar !!
By the way do not consider the Yaris with the MMT gearbox0 -

No surprise there, we, the tax payer subsidise a scheme, and the manufacterers cream off the incentive, greedy barstewards, they should be banned from taking part.:mad:0 -
If it was my money I would get the Toyota Yaris. Best looking car out the whole lot.
Looks like it was designed and then they looked at the cost rather than the other ones where they looked at the cost and then designed it.Iva started Dec 2018.0 -

.
Now that is strange, tho' I agree the Yaris is a good car, I think that it is (almost ) the ugliest thing on the road.
To each his / her own.;)0 -

Not really...you have to understand the manuf'rs didn't have a £1k margin on these cars to give away in the first place, so you ahve to realise that on small cheap hatches they are now losing money...rather than the point of the scheme which was to boost their cashflow. The majority of people want to buy small cheap hatches on the scheme..exactly the type of car that aleady ahd small sub-£1k margins to start with...so it isn't helping the industry very much!. Bear in mind the average discount on Aygo available was about £300-£500, max, as that's all the dealers get, so having to put in in the rest to make it up to their required £1k contribution means they are operating at a loss..“Official Company Representative

Stop it, you will have me crying in my tea..;)
No manufacturer was forced to take part in the scheme, strange that many prices have misteriosly increased as soon as the scheme starts.
I agree that there isn't a huge margin in the smaller, cheaper cars, but this isn't restricted to that type of car.0
