Applying for 0% cards - turned down

in Credit cards
I have been turned down recently for M&S and Halifax who were offering 0% (as found on this site). I was turned down with no explanation. I already have 2 credit cards with Lloyds TSB. Am I being too honest by saying I don't work at the moment. I have a joint account and residual income. By saying 'homemaker' are you instantly seen as not being a good bet? Or, if your partner has these cards do the companies not wish to issue a separate one to the other in the couple? Thanks

Am I being too honest by saying I don't work at the moment.
This is the problem. But it's not really a case of "being too honest" - if you say anything other than the truth then you will be committing fraud. All of these cards require you to have a regular income. If you don't work you won't be able to get one. What cards your partner has won't make a difference as his finances don't show up on your credit file.0 -
Thanks for that - I suppose once you are issued a card from many years ago you keep it forever (as long as you don't default), but applying for a new one is different as you have to be in employment at that time.
If someone already has several cards can they still apply for more if in full time work?:money:0 -
In today;s climate lenders are extremely cautious,so saying you are not working will have a negative effect. But you are being honest which is very commendable.0

for people that do not work, it is acceptable to entitle your occupation as domestic engineer (house wife/husband)... If you've been a stay at home parent for 10yrs, then you've been a domestic engineer for 10yrs (the lenders know of course what this 'job' is)
As they dont ask for employer details (if name you put myself) you can do it. Salary would be whatever housekeeping and ChB / CTC etc as appropriate.... other income would be the partners if you have one.
sorted. :T:T:T2010 - year of the troll

Thanks - I never saw myself as a domestic engineer ha ha but might be worth a try if c/card company knows what it really means!:money:0

It sounds as though you are not in a position to apply for 0% or low interest rate BT cards. These market-leading credit cards require an annual income of at least £8000.If your partner has these cards, do the companies not wish to issue a separate one to the other in the couple?
Is it possible to move your LloydsTsb balance(s) to a new BT card in your partner's name?People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0
