Something pleasant to say about Setanta Sports for a change

Hi,
I just called Setanta Sports on 0191 5013482 and spoke to a very helpful young lady called Rebecca.

I called with the intention of cancelling as £12.99 a month was a lot for what we were actually watching but we still do like and use the channel.

They were very obliging about cancelling and gave me details on how to do so (didn't try hard to dissuade me) but they also mentioned that they can give me a reduced rate of £6.50 a month for 3 months (with a possibility to extend).

As I didn't really want to cancel I took the offer and its saved me 50% on what I was paying.

Thought it may be useful for anyone else in the same predicament - i.e. like the channel but find it expensive.

I heard they are showing the FA Cup final in the clear and free.

It's on ITV though as well and ITV HD.

Of course there won't be much football on over the next three months anyway, so maybe only a good deal if they really do extend that.

Despite a good 20 minutes of negotiating (it's probably easier to talk terrorists into surrender in a hostage situation), I can honestly say that I am a happy customer here after getting off the phone to Setanta.

Just like this time last year, I rang Setanta to cancel my subscription in a hope to get a good deal from them. I explained that due to the end of the football season, I wouldn't be interested in continuing my contract and I asked for the procedure to cancel.

Instead of answering my question, they offered me a yearly contract of £9.99 per month to stay on, which I rejected, and then a 6 month contract at £6.99. I personally didn't want to be on a six month or yearly contract so I rejected both and I explained that if I were to stay then I would rather be on a month to month contract.

I asked again how to cancel.

Setanta asked me whether I was willing to re-join Setanta when the football season restarts. I said that due to Sky getting the better game packages, I wasn't sure whether I would and I would probably wait to see what games Setanta would get.

I asked again for the cancellation procedure.

The representative then put me on hold to speak to his manager. He returned by saying "As a loyal customer to Setanta, we are wondering if you would accept the next 3 months for £3.33 per month so you can have a think about whether you would like to cancel or not. That's 3 months for less than £10.00".

BINGO! Just what I was looking for.

Setanta then told me to ring them back within 3 months to see what other offers they will have for the new season, which I will then try and get a good deal for then as well, especially as I am, as they put it, a loyal customer! I'll use their words to hurt their pockets and fill mine in a few months time as well.

With England games, Boxing and the MLB season happening from now till then, I'm delighted!
    :hello:
  • Just called to cancel subscription on 0191 number got straight through. They offered me all kinds of deals to keep my subscription but I held out to the end and they offered me the next three months at £3.33 per month which was less than paying my last months subscription. No harm in holding out as you have to send them a letter to confirm your cancellation so there is no risk of losing your service if they don't offer you this.

Doesn't this just indicate the degree of desperation at Setanta? If they can't get refinanced they are not going to be around much longer anyway.

Things will get a whole lot more desperate after next season for them with just 23 Premier League games on offer over a whole season, anyone remember ITV Digital!

I too just rang with a threat of cancellation, I really was going to cancel as the footy season is finished.
When told I need to give 30 days notice and therefore would be due to make another payment in June I basically told him if that's the case then I won't be resubscribing when the new season starts, I'll just go down to my local to watch instead. He buckled straight away and offered the £3.33 for 3 months deal which I accepted.

It's so nice to get one over on these con artists once in a while,
and even more so when you can help others to do the same:beer:
