I checked out the completed 'Monopoly Cards' and found this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RARE-COVENTRY-STREET-MONOPOLY-GAME-CARD_W0QQitemZ140105920701QQihZ004QQcategoryZ19094QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    How awful!!!

I know they are not lying but they are definitely intending to misrepresent - there are never any photos of the cards that are not MacDonalds.

    FFM :)

  What would paypal do about that if a buyer tried a chargeback!?!??

It says nothing about mcdonalds! Silly ebayer for bidding though!!

How can you say 'the sellers have done nothing wrong'?

They have every intention of ripping off the buyer.

Would you do it? If the answer is 'no' then I would suggest that you know they are doing something wrong.

I can't see how you can say 'the greed of people' and only refer to the buyers and not the sellers.

  • I got a reply from the seller in my OP -

"i cannot confirm or deny that" - short and sweet again!

I think it is fair to say that if McDonalds were not running their promotion then this seller would not have thought to list Monopoly property cards from the board game. Therefore he is attempting to cash in by means of misrepresentation. Feel sorry for the bidders who are too naive to read into the descriptions and see the truth.

They have listed exactly what they are selling  I don't agree with it, but they aren't actually misleading anyone as to what they are selling, the buyers are reading too much into the auction. Nowhere is the name McDonalds used. Now, when it comes to being evasive/lying when being asked questions about the items and the auctions which have grey almost impossible to read tiny writing stating that they are selling a picture NOT the real game cards, yes, thats wrong.

Just because I wouldn't do it doesn't necesarilly mean its wrong. I wouldn't Bungee jump but that doesn't make it wrong does it?

And I don't recall saying "the greed of people" and only referring to the buyers...that is down to what someone has read into what I have written....;) think about it. I made 2 separate comments in that post. Greed isn't necessarilly wrong (yes, OK, it's one of the 7 deadly sins  ), otherwise why does everyone feel so sorry for the buyers? (And yes, I feel a bit sorry for the buyers but they quite obviously haven't read the auctions!!)

  • OK - I couldn't resist .. having mailed loads of the sellers asking them to confirm the cards ARE from the McDonald's promotion ... and surprise, surprise .. having no responses! I couldn't contain myself .. and full of righteous indignation I e-mailed a couple of high bidders politely asking if they were aware that in all probability they were bidding £70 or so on a standard Monopoly Board Game Property Card.

Probably shouldn't have got involved ... but I'm on my high horse today having had my motorbike nicked in the night by some scumbag!!!! Oh well, I might have saved someone a few quid!

Going to drown my sorrows in a bottle of wine now ... and leave e-bay alone!!!!!
