Options
hi, i am about to have an op which will confine me to bed for 3 months and i was hoping someone could let me know what i need to get and do to watch tv in my bedroom...i used to subscribe to sky but cancelled it as could not afford it,,when i cancelled i found i still had a lot of chanels free such as film 4, the horror chanel, itv ,bbc 3 etc....i think i must be receiving them through the sky dish,,,what do i need to buy and do to get these same chanels in my bedroom so that 1 person can watch 1 thing downstairs and i can watch something else upstairs,,,i just spent most of my money i had on things to take in hospital so want to do this the cheapest way....thanks

You can take an additional feed from your Sky dish into your bedroom, but to watch different channels in different rooms then you would need a second box.
Might be cheaper just to use a Freeview box on a TV in your bedroom, you can get most of the Sky Free to Air channels that way.

freeview box requires an aerial to be plugged into the aerial socket, normally they connect via a scart lead from the box to your tv, so your tv must have a scart socket, shouldnt be a problem if its a reasonably new tv, say in the last 5years or lcd

freeview box, price range from £18 and up
argos, asda, comets, curry's all sell them.

Well presumably the Sky free to view channels, assuming you are connected via your Skybox to the Sky dish. If you don't have Freeview, then the only terrestial service you can get is analogue TV through an aerial, but this will not give you anything but the basic five channels.
A Freeview box requires an aerial connection, just like analogue TV does.
The only other digital option is Virgin Media TV service (if you are in a cabled area).

You could get a dual or quad LNB fitted to your dish and a cable run to the bedroom, then buy a second hand Sky box from eBay.

As an alternative to Sky mltiroom or a freeview box which requires a cable running to your bedroom, I suggest an AV transmitter. This is effectively a small arial which transmits your TV channe from your main TV to your TV in your bedroom - without any cables. I have one and works really well. You can buy them from various places, but I'm sure Argos sell them for around £20.
