this is what im thinking
all companys use the house number and then the postcode to do a search, if the two dont tie up, then it will be flagged on their system - so this person is giving the correct house number and postcode for my property, but obviously not theirs. it has to be a fluke of a million to one, to give the wrong postcode and house number, unless like me, have checked which properties certain numbers belong to. ive knocked on every door that has the same postcode as me, and this person does not live in any of them. ive tried variations on the house number, but again, none of these have the same postcode as me, so i cant see how the two have been tied up
Oh well im just gonna have to do an Elvis, but it doesnt mean the situation has been rectified, as im sure i will be getting more post for these people. Perhaps its just my address, i still get post for the previous occupants 8yrs after they left, even though i keep sending it back, the companys dont seem to take any notice

I have had the same problem although I know the other person concerned. I think its to do with mailing lists and someone has got names and addresses mixed somehow. The mail always seems to by what I class as the "junk" category so I don't think there is anything sinister about it.
I think I must be unusual in that I seem to have two postcodes? Only one according to the royal mail but nevertheless some address search software will not find me with the correct postcode and I have to use the alternative. The problem is that the alternative postcode is in the next village, with a similar name, and this causes all sorts of problems with deliveries. I've given up trying to resolve it and just live with it.0 -

Agreed. There was a thread on here a while ago where people said they gave any address when buying a television and no-one actually checked.
The other one could also be avoiding something, maybe a chugger stopped them or something similar.
We had this happen to us many years ago, but not only did we get mail, we had people turning up at the door to collect insurance instalments (in the days when they had reps to collect on the book).
I ended up asking the police to log it as we didn't know what would happen next, but after doing that we actually heard nothing further.0 -

It could easily be a simple mistake. Someone's probably just transposed a couple of the figures in the postcode or written one of them backwards. Human error. My dad can't deal with postcodes at all because he's dyslexic. In that case the mail is meant for someone with the same number but a different postcode.
That or someone's giving a fake address using a random house number and a postcode they probably know is real, either because they live in the same street, used to live there, or know someone else who does. You can't know which unless you have a high house number in which case it's probably just a mistake because someone making up an address probably wouldn't like to risk saying it's number 80 and it turning out to be a short street.
Either way it's just junk mail and nothing to get worried about. If you can be bothered to walk to the post box or you're going anyway RTS it. Otherwise just stick it straight in the recycle bin.
I believe you are within your rights to open it if you want since it's addressed to your address. Could be something interesting. We used to get catalogues for sex-toys addressed to some previous tenant. They were a good giggle.0 -
I get lots of mail and parcels which are not for me. Usually my house number and street name, but different name and post code.
I RTS but have problems with parcels. They are often just left by my front door or in my porch. They are not for me and they are advertising that there is no-one home. I now just stick them in my garage as I'm fed up of wasting time and money ringing the companies to collect them. If they realise their mistake and come for them I will give them back. I did mistakenly sign for a registered parcel very early one saturday morning. When I took it inside I realised it wasn't my name or post code on the parcel. Rang RM who said tough they had delivered to best possible address. TS told me I could keep it. A few weeks later RM called again early one morning to recollect the parcel as they had had complaints from sender/receiver and had told them it had been delivered. Could have saved themself hassle.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Not true. Postcodes run in blocks of houses on the same side of the street. For example, in my street of 410 houses, 36 have the same postcode as me.0 -

That way, any mail adressed to Joe Bloggs at your address will be withheld by the postman. You can also stop junk mail using this service.
when we bought our house the hubby and wife split up and did a runner. now for the last 8 months we just keep on getting their mail. it is mostly all bills and such. we have rts them and also told RM but they just keep on sending the.
now if they dont pay their bills does the house get a bad credit rating our has that changed and just the person gets the bad ratiing.0 -

Oh. I had thought that it was illegal too but the postie told me that it was OK. Never mind. I don't suppose the guy will be coming after us for it. We're not generally in the habit of opening other peoples mail b.t.w. The first one my housemate opened by accident since his name is similar to the guy the catalogues are addressed to.0 -
Is there the same street name in another part of your town? I have a similar problem I live in Walton but there is the same street name in Mastin Moor and I was always getting their post, I am signed up with the mailing preference service and I have not had any for a while.0
