Childrens ID tags

While on holiday last week I realised that if my DS2 wanders off (which he has a very bad habit of doing) he is pretty much lost. He is 4 and non-verbal, he can't say his name and only the first syllable of words, so when he says his name it is 'ris'. Very difficult for people to understand and guess what he is saying.
Obviously we are working on the wandering off and using any sort of harness for him is not possible as it causes him to fall (mobility problems also).
So, thinking of some sort of ID tag for him, anyone have any ideas?
What type of ID tag would be best (without being a great big sign saying 'look at me, I'm different') and what do you actually put on them information wise??

You can get these emergency wrist bands that have your mobile no on them:
http://www.chesterford.co.uk/acatalog/Identity_Wristbands_for_older_children.html
But if you wanted something more permanent what about a silver/ gold ID bracelet that you could get engraved, or make him a t-shirt with your no. on that he can wear when you go out, just write it on the breast pocket for example so it is big enough to see but not immediately obvious.0 -
we got some of these:

under "labels"
then "id safety tattoos"0 -

I ordered a wrist thing from mothercare, you get a couple in a pack with a marker to write your phone number on. My dads girlfriend got me some hospital wrist tags, the childrens size when she realised what i had bought. The only problem is hoping someone spots it if the child gets lost, but its better than nothing. Glad i'm not the only one that worries about things like this, both my boys are delayed in speech and the eldest (6) still can't say his surname correctly. Would you be happy for your child to wear something round there neck? i'm not keen. Be prepared for someone to make a negative comment.0
