Information on connecting flights

I am just trying to get abit more information on international connecting flights. My girlfriend is flying from Sydney to London and then on to Copenghagen Denmark. She will be having 2 and half hour stop over in London Heathrow well from the time she lands to the time she takes off again.
My question is:

- Will she be able to leave the airport to come and see me or does she have to stay airside.

Technically she could, but I very much doubt she will have time to. Knowing Heathrow and if she has to change termimals and go through security again that will use up most of that 2-1/2 hours, and that's assuming her flight lands on time.0
