You could try asking your provider to lower your tariff, depends how long you have had it for though.

A contract is just that, a contract. The only way you can get out of it usually is by paying the termination fee.

  • i've only had it since january. my bills are around £45 every month, thats includes phone insurance too.

Unlikely to be able to lower it then.

Who is it with? If a provider has brought out a new tariff then you should be able to move to that to get better value. i.e when o2 brought out unlimited texts, existing customers could also get that deal.

Also, check your home insurance for cover on your mobile, or question is it really necessary? Is your phone worth a lot? Do you get insurance through your bank account? Then you can cancel the insurance with the company to save some money.

If you've had it since Jan you can lower it Sept/Oct time.
Also, check your tariff to see if you are on one of the best for you to get value from, i.e can you move to the new tariffs where you get a free bolt on (internet, texts etc).
Also, depends how careful you are with your phone, I've never ever had insurance on mines and to this date have never lost a phone. So, that's your call on whether you want to cancel it, would save you £6-£7.50 a month, depending on your package.
Also, if your extra charges are due to your usage (i.e 0870 numbers etc), then don't use these from your mobile, check the saynoto0870 website for a landline number. This should reduce your outgoings until you can lower it.

Unfortunately thats just the way things are with shopping. Deals and prices change constantly and what you bought yesterday isn't seen as good value today. Its just a risk people take when signing long term contracts.

You can either pay a penalty charge and downgrade your tariff to a lower one, or sell the Renoir to pay for the remaining months of line rental. Then take up a new contract deal. Either way, £45 is a heck of an amount to take out in the first place.

    Good luck.

Ditch the phone insurance if it's separate to your monthly phone rental. It's totally useless, worthless. Which you will find when you try to claim on it. Then it will bring your costs down. And, as phone insurance is usually separate to the normal contract you should be able to cancel it. It's an added, pointless money making thing.

    However:

Nope. You are stuck with it, and can't change just because you saw a better deal elsewhere. Sorry to disappoint. But if you cancel that added cost (outside of the monthly fee usually) that will bring it down. But not by much.

As others have said the game here is shop around. I spotted a good deal on an LG purely out shopping. Needed and wanted to get a new mobile anyway (usually I have sim free phones no hassle of contracts etc) so phoned Carphone Warehouse same day and got free phone. Yes, the phone insurance was pressure sold to me, but I cancelled it.
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

Why did you sign up to such an expensive contract if you knew it was too expensive?

Sorry but your only option is to stick it out for the 12 (18 / 24) months and then cancel.

You may be able to downgrade after a certain time period but you'll have to ask the network about that, all networks are different.
