Just a quick query from you knowledgeable lot.
I work with a girl aged 24 her boyfriend is 24 too. He works 60 hours as security guard and she does 16-20 hours in retail.
How the heck do they get working tax credits ? I thought you had to either have kids or be over 25 yrs.
He is a total fantacist ( sp ? ) and has changed his name twice in the past to avoid debt collectors.
Any advice.

If both are under 25 they've no right to tax credits. If you think he's stolen someone else's identity in order to qualify for tax credits then report him.
But make sure you've got your facts right before dopping someone in it. Sounds to me you just don't like these people & it's got nothing to do with their benefit entitlements.0 -
They wouldn't be entitled to tax credits. Make sure you have your facts straight and stay anonymous. They dont sound like the type of people you would want to get on the wrong side of.

The girl is lovely and I like her but her OH is one of these people who brags about everything and has been there and done it better ! He came in bragging in the shop that he had got over £1000 in back pay from tax credits and was going to buy a £800 coffee machine !
This is why they never have any money.0 -
I think your suspicions may be right. People think they can get away with cheating the system but then shoot themselves in the foot by bragging and showing off.
What an akward position to be in though. If they were to ever find out that you reported them it could make your working life a nightmare.

if hes a bragger then every chance he is also a B/S*tter... probably the tax credits are in his mind!!..0

Yeah but Lorac you could twist things around entirely.
You might be wrong with their ages, is that a possibility ? And that they've been awarded tax credits based on last years records when their earnings weren't so good ... not that either are dining at the Ritz on minimum wage anyway. And there they are, slaving away on low wages, fighting with HMRC to get some money out of them, trying to cope with his debts etc etc
Aye okay. It kinda breaks down with the £800 coffee machine ... but you know what I mean ? Two sides to every story, ayes ?0 -
The girl has a little white card for free prescriptions which she says she gets thro' tax credits. He claims he is diabetic ( but only due to his weight no need for insulin ) but can spend a fiver on sugary drinks and those kids sweets ( full of sugar ). Can you claim the disability thing if you are diabetic and working ? Maybe it is legal ? I have no idea.
I am sure about their ages.
The coffee machine was just one example and the others at work who do claim tax credits for their kids all said how the heck does he get them ? I was just asking for advice really.0 -

Diabetics are exempt from prescription charges.

If the OP's got the facts, wrong - like the ages- then there won't be any problems for this couple; they'll just show ID and that'll be that.0 -
Yes, you can receive Disability Living Allowance and work. It's not granted for a particular diagnosis, but on how your condition affects your day-to-day living and what care needs you have,(AKA HRH_MUngo)
