I travelled around Gdansk, it has a long way to come in terms of quality of life... theres a big divide between poor and rich.. and still the undercurrents of corruption in local government and business transactions.
Case in point, a bit of land has been sold 5-6 times to foreign investors.... each time the company using the money to buy the land has gone bankrupt and pocketed the money.
The island areas of gdansk are heavily fortified with strong !!!!! links... yep wife is from bad area, so i've seen what its like.
In the winter its dreadfully cold, as a country you will be alot more reliant on gas prices in the future as it costs gas to keep those homes heated.
Im just saying... dont look down on your neighbours with glee, polands had a 20 year recession.. and while its situation has improved thanks to eu funding and investment, which has strengthened the zloty quite a bit, this investment will equally dwindle as the core economies of eu start to enter recesssion.
Are you not worried that germany is -4 to -5% in growth? How are they to fuel polands rebirth when they going down? Whats gonna happen is spending and investment will be cut, EU will have to prop up countries like Spain and Ireland... who i might add are in a worse state than UK economically.
If all the major countries of EU are in recession, how does money get invested in eastern bloc countries like EU. And the investment required to bring infrastructure like roads and such in the poor north is going to cost ALOT.
Also unfortunately poland is seing a rise, as china is because it offers cheap manufacturing labour... factories will relocate there. As standard of life improves for polish people they will demand more pay and the factories could easily just up and move to africa were labour is cheaper.

Yup. The problems are very acute in some respects, particularly in villages in the east. Corruption still exists, it would be ridiculous to claim otherwise - but passing bribes to police officers for instance will land you in the local prison cell - it's well known for them to take the money and then arrest you for attempted bribery. I would suggest that corruption is heading towards Western standards - ie, 'white collar'. Certainly, it isn't possible nowadays to routinely bribe people to achieve something.Case in point, a bit of land has been sold 5-6 times to foreign investors.... each time the company using the money to buy the land has gone bankrupt and pocketed the money. The island areas of gdansk are heavily fortified with strong !!!!! links... yep wife is from bad area, so i've seen what its like.In the winter its dreadfully cold, as a country you will be alot more reliant on gas prices in the future as it costs gas to keep those homes heated.Im just saying... dont look down on your neighbours with glee, polands had a 20 year recession.. and while its situation has improved thanks to eu funding and investment, which has strengthened the zloty quite a bit, this investment will equally dwindle as the core economies of eu start to enter recesssion. Are you not worried that germany is -4 to -5% in growth? But Poland is at the crossroads of Europe. And you're forgetting the old maxim - you can spend your way out of a recession. It may very well be that Polish construction contracts are what keeps Western companies afloat. Also unfortunately poland is seing a rise, as china is because it offers cheap manufacturing labour... factories will relocate there. I only hope that Poland saves something for a rainy day.mobby wrote:How do you know have you ever been to Ireland???
My step son lives in Belfast & we have often flown by Ryanair to Dublin instead because it was cheaper.
The border control authorities do not bother you.
We only knew we had crossed the border when he told us we were now in Belfast & then we noticed the road signs were different.
Before you say it step-son also has a UK registered car!\
Perhaps you should read what the relevant authorities say about the matter, rather than relying on first hand evidence that isn't proof of anything?
The fact remains that identification is recommended for crossing the UK-Ireland frontier. You don't have to have it - but if you get stopped at the border and questioned, you might find that it's much more difficult if you can't prove your identity.strull wrote:There is a much bigger story behind this and we both know - or at least i do. Still, we never stopped bailing you out so no worries.
What story is there, apart from Brits being so spoiled and lazy that they went onto a 3 day week and refused to bury the dead? From Poland...with love.
