Plusnet Value is NOT 5.99 standalone

The moneysavingexpert article lists Plusnet Value as the cheapest overall standalone broadband package "where the only thing you change is the broadband."
Well I took the advice and signed up to Plusnet Value, only to find that because I'm not also renting the line from Plusnet, I'm paying the full 11.99 for the next 18 months.
Looking again, I now realise that the 5.99/month package is only when you also take the "Talk evenings and weekends" package with the Plusnet Value broadband. That's not my idea of stand-alone broadband...
So -- this article needs to be changed! I should have looked at the fine print myself, but others are likely to make the same mistake and get very upset!
Cheers,
Rob

If you read Martin's article it does say "It's worth noting that if you're in the 20% of the country that can't get this offer (you'll be told when you enter your postcode) you'll only get the first three months at £5.99, after this it'll set you back £11.99/month, meaning you should try elsewhere."
Also tells you this on Plusnet's wesite - "Plusnet Value broadband starts at £5.99 a month for the first 3 months. If you live in one of our low cost areas you'll then pay this price every month. If you live outside of one of these areas you'll then pay £11.99 a month thereafter."
Cheap deal only applies if your exchange is Market 3 - Plusnet also link to an explanation - http://www.plus.net/residential/faqs.shtml#faq20 -

Just to confirm what others have said. The £5.99 deal is a standalone one, I took mine out in March. It has nothing to do with taking out any telephone rental or packages, you just have to be in what is classed as a market 3 exchange which is one where there is lots of competition from LLU suppliers.0

Ok, so this is what has happened...
I was completely aware of the Market 1/2/3 aspect and I am Market 3 -- which is why I was fuming when I saw £11.99 in the Account Summary section on my plus.net login.
I phoned PlusNet and they confirmed that I am Market 3 and that I will be receiving the broadband at £5.99/month and that the line rental from them is not required, as expected.
So it looks as though the "standard price" is reported in the Account Summary, regardless of whether you are Market 3 or not, and that you just have to ignore that...
Do other people actually get £5.99 on their Account Summary page?
At least I know I've got the deal I wanted now, so thanks people :j0 -

This is correct.
It is one of those Plusnet quirks.
I am market 3 and my account summary says 11.99 but i get charged 5.99 so don't worry.0 -
Yes there is a bug in the plusnet system as confirmed on their forum.
My account summary also shows £11.99 even though they charge me £5.99.
As another thought, I wonder what will happen when VAt goes back up to 17.5%, will they increase the price to just over £6 (a rather awkward figure) or have they already factored in the increase and are currently making slightly more profit out of us.0 -
I was looking at my usage yesterday and stumbled onto the charges where it said £12.99
Gave me a bit of a shock but I thought it had something to do with first month charges or whatever.
Glad I read this thread.
Will follow it up now and see what I've actually been charged.
Yeah £5.99 for the first monthly payment and £6.99 for post and packing of the free router. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
I am also paying £11.99 and have no idea why as i am in a market 3 area >.< I have opend a question so lets see what they say.0
