Thanks for that slight misunderstanding but can assure you the degree can be obtained after course has finished please see website for trinity college co uk /dada (won't let me post it as a link)
http://www.trinitycollege.co.uk/site/?id=268 there you go.
It is rather confusing, however the PDF file says:The National Diploma in Professional Dance (accredited at Level 6 of the National Qualifications Framework) gives formal
recognition to the skills, knowledge and understanding acquired by students in their training for employment as professional
dancers.
It does say a lot of students go onto Middlesex Uni to top up, have you looked at the courses there? I suspect if students are going there to top up to a degree it maybe worth just going there as the quality of teaching is likely to be as good (as the college are recommending Middlesex)0 -
i am not getting involved with the whole finances versus talented thing as i study dance at uni which i got into via audition and interview as well as section 10 on ucas and wasn't particularly talented to start with - tho my course is helping me! plus, i think every1 is talented, some people just refuse to believe so or can't see it. I was just posting to say that yes, Middlesex Uni. is very good, I know this for dance but it's still not quite like a vocational course like this. There's other places to top up a degree and etc. etc.
Also, it takes a lot to decide what course to do, whatever you're studying. The original poster is asking for help about funding though, not advice about her daughter's course. There are other ways to become a musical theatre dancer, and perform in musicals but if this is the way she's doing it, it's her choice isn't it?
Hope I don't sound preachy, I've gone off the original topic - I just know how hard it is for any student with money problems sadly.
Good luck for the bbc audition xxI am a poor student wife now but don't think I can edit username? i study dance and love it though of course, it'll be a career that doesn't earn a lot of money!!
lost 5lbs so far - up to 11lb more to lose i think, will stop if it looks skeletal though dont think that could ever happen!0 -

from the college website:
FUNDING
Dance and Drama awards
The Dance and Drama Awards (DaDA) are scholarships funded by the Learning and Skills Council. They are awarded by schools to the students who display the most potential to succeed in the profession. Only students taking an approved Trinity College London qualification will be eligible to apply for an award. These courses last between one and three years and are at National Diploma or National Certificate level. Awards offer greatly reduced tuition fees and access to an income-assessed student support fund.
For further information about the awards and eligibility, please visit the DaDA website at www.direct.gov.uk/danceanddrama.
Contact Charitable Trusts
Some charitable trusts have helped finance students in the past. A directory listing the various grant making trusts and charities should be available at your local library.
seems to be national diploma level not degree so wouldn't attract the student loan funding anyway.
Dance and Drama Awards: what could you get?
If you get a Dance and Drama Award, it will cover the majority of your tuition fees. However, you will also need to make a personal contribution.
For the 2009/2010 academic year, this personal contribution is £1,275.
The Dance and Drama award is given regardless of your household income. But whether you get additional help depends on your circumstances.
Students from England, Scotland and Wales
If you come from England, Scotland or Wales you may be able to get additional help with living costs and childcare - over and above the Dance and Drama Award.
How much extra you get will depend on your family's annual household income. If your family's income is above £33,000, you will not be entitled to any extra help.
The table below shows how much extra help you can get for 2009/10 towards your fees and living costs.

Unfortunately you've missed the point that, unlike university funding, not all students on these courses get this funding. They're very competitive and only offered to the most talented candidates, not to everyone who's accepted on a course.0 -
so the award is based on abilty it doesn't say so on the govt website. So you need to be a very able dancer to get funded then? sounds fair enough to me.
good luck to her anyway!0 -
Hi, Just come across this site whilst doing the same as you - looking for funding at Performers for sept!!! It is an absolute mine field. I seem to have exhausted all the same areas of funding as yourself and am now having to ask family and friends to help/support. Like you my daughter has beendancing/training since the age of 2 1/2 and I refuse to let her fall at the final fence. She has been accepted at three colleges - including Italia Conti! - but we at now at a complete loss as to where to try next!0

Did you ever find anywhere that could help with her fees?
I really hope so, it'd be such a shame for her to miss out now if this is her dream.Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:0
