Binge Drinking

i'm not exactly sure what binge drinking means, it might be where people don't drink much during the week then have a massive amount at the weekend. maybe it's healthier for you to drink steadily all week lol!
i used to drink when i was younger. i stopped when i got pregnant 9 years ago and never started again, i don't drink now and don't miss it at all. but i'm sure that when i was younger everyone used to drink all the time, i'm not sure why there's such a focus on it now. we used to go to the student night at the clubs, the music was better and the beer was cheap, each club had their student night on a different night of the week. we all used to drink pretty much every night. having said that it was just a few drinks, never enough to cause vomiting, fights or being unable to walk.52% tight0 -
In our town there are now police vans queuing up the high street before the pubs turn out for the inevitable fights, window smashing and anything else these drunken yobs decide is a good idea after too much drink - I can't see how anyone thinks that is OK.
I don't want to walk down the highstreet of a morning to see piles of sick and the stench of the shop doorway where someones had a wee, just so that some moron can think he/she had a good night.
I am not talking of the 17/18 year olds that look back when they are 31 and say 'yeah I had a few too many of several occasions' I am talking of the mindless idiots that drink themselves into oblivion every week and continue way past 31.
I think the ambulance people should leave these people to roll around in the gutter in their own puke and save themselves the abuse they get.You never know how far you can fly, till you spread your wings.0 -
hmmm ... my town has pigeons to eat the vomit lol!
it was never the way you describe back when i was a lass out with my pals at night, mind you the student nights had a totally different atmosphere and set of people to the townie nights, even when i wasn't a student i was always in the student haunts because i'm not into chart music. i worked in a nightclub at weekends and was always amazed by all the fights, you just didn't get that at student nights. nobody ever seemed drunk enough to vomit or fall over either. people dressed in jeans and t-shirts too, no hooker clothes to cause unwanted attentions.
there are still places that attract that student crowd although they play skate punk and marilyn manson nowadays, i stay clear of the trendy nightclubs, they're full of drunken idiots vomiting and fighting. the townies don't like the student types, you have to know which eateries to avoid. we go to the main clubs very occasionally if a member of family wants their birthday celebration there, it's a horrible atmosphere, lots of violence, too much to drink, women old enough to be my mother smashed, wearing clothes from top shop trying to pretend they're in their 20's rather than 40's and pulling boys younger than their children for the evening. ick, lol!52% tight0 -

fair enough, leave people in their own puke and maybe do the rounds at around 7am instead (so the general public don't have to see any bodies if anyone's choked on it), arrest and fine anyone who hasn't sobered up enough to get up and walk home.
what you say about still doing it past 31, i think that's where the problem is, when i was a teenager there weren't any clubs for the 30-ish age group, all they had were their local pubs. now there's chicago rock and its upstairs club too, people in their 30's and 40's are out until 2 instead of 11, drinking far more than they can handle. in our town the police presence is concentrated on the venues for older customers, even the drugs testing. people my age (33) and older are the ones that cause most of the trouble as far as the police are concerned. me, i can't imagine why anyone would want to poison their body so much they vomit and fall over or just generally talk rubbish and behave like a moron - what is the benefit? it's a mystery to me ... a few drinks can be fun but too many is just stupid, and it costs more lol!52% tight0 -

Yeah, they do look ridiculous!!
Very fetching don't you think, stumbling around in their high heels when they can't walk straight. lolYou never know how far you can fly, till you spread your wings.0 -
They closed all our public loos in Shepway too - they were closed all the time, not just at night.
After much public pressure (!) they had to reopen them!
I dont know why the government is making such a big deal about binge drinking - I'm 31 now and we all used to go out when I was 17/18 and binge drink, never caused a problem then so what's changed?
On our local news they did a feature about it and they said that two glasses of wine constitutes binge drinking - how!?!?
COMPLETELY AGREE!!!
who really cares about binge drinking when there are 100,000 people dying due to a tsunami in Indonesia. Our government should be directing their efforts to helping there instead of worrying about binge drinking. When you think about it and compare binge drinking with 100,000 peopple dying it doesnt seem to be as much of an issue anymore does it?
I think we should all forget about binge drinking, let the youngsters enjoy themselves!, i understand if they cause damage then they should be punished, but for the few nights a year (new years, christmas etc) when everyone is together celebrating the same event, we should be enjoying ourselves not being old bags who just want to be a barrier in the way of peoples enjoyment.

The problem with the urinating law is that many pubs now ignore the 20 mins drinking up time, so they will happily sell you a pint at 10:59 but then kick you out at 11:00. So you have to neck that pint in under 1 min and obviously need a slash 10 mins later. However councils don't provide public loos any more and the pubs are all now shut so your only option is on the street. Again with vomiting, surely it's healthier for someone who's drunk to vomit it up rather than try and hold it in to aviod a fine. And I really don't get how the police are supposed to tell the difference to people who are medically unwell and those who are vomiting due to drunkenness.
If only we had sensible people in charge of the legislation in this country then we would relax the drinking laws stopping the need for binge drinking and the crime that comes with it. Unfortunately this sort of policy doesn't win votes so we're stuck with existing outdated laws and the associated trouble that comes with it.0 -
okay it's difficult to spot who's drunk and who's diabetic and unwell but why are the police there anyway? there weren't any police outside pubs or clubs when i was a kid. nobody really needed the police but they had a riot van that was called out by the club bouncers occasionally on a saturday night. i think the police should stay away, i'm sure they have better things to do than play nanny to people who drink more than they should.
i think changing the drinking laws would help, there wouldn't be the mad scramble to consume large quantities of alcohol before closing time and you wouldn't get everyone kicked out at the same time, not so many fights and not so much ten-to-two pulling of people you wouldn't normally want to sleep with. if everyone left when they felt like it the waiting times in kebab shops would be quicker and it would be easier to find a taxi.52% tight0 -
I agree with bargain bunny. If everyone did not spill out on to the streets at the same time then a lot of conflict could be avoided."This site is addictive!"

This post started before this disaster and of course to anyone with an ounce of common sense it pales into irrelevance, but thank you for pointing it out to those of us who are clearly to thick to realise this. You never know how far you can fly, till you spread your wings.0
