London Energy Online price rises
Options
Got a letter stating price rise for online dual fuel effective 13th March. So assume comparison sites (which are the only way to get the cheaper 'online' tariff) have already taken it into account. They don't give %, so I had to work them out. For reference the Midlands online dual-fuel prices:
Feb 2005 prices (when we signed up):
Gas: 2.50p, 1.49p above 5860kWh
Elec: 8.01p, 5.41p above 900kWh
1st June 2005 price rise:
Gas: 2.701p (+8.04%), 1.699p (+12.01%) above 1465kWh per quarter
Elec: 8.33p (+3.99%), 5.62p (+3.88%) above 225kWh per quarter
13th March 2006 price rise:
Gas: 3.024p (+11.96%), 1.903p (+12.01%) above 1465kWh per quarter
Elec: 9.21p (+10.56%), 6.22p (10.68%) above 225kWh per quarter
Edit: According to energyhelpline.com the standard tariff is 31% more expensive and the capped till 2008 tariff is 36% more expensive.

I haven't had any letter from London Energy about a price rise from 13th March. In fact CS speicifically told me that the online tariff was not going up this time around.
Energyhelpline are still quoting the prices I already had prior to March 13th, as are UK Power.
In fact your Online version seems to be different from mine - I'm on version 3.1. Which one are you on?0 -
As with npower, London Energy online prices for new (and recently new) customers are different to long standing customers.0
-
Not sure which version we are on, but we signed up in Feb 2005 when it was still the original tariff (sept 2004).
As matto says, think long standing online customers have a slightly different tariff than to newer customers. I remember a March 2005 price rise that only effected new online customers. Also think in October 2005 tariff was updated to v3.1. But maybe only for new customers?
Edit: ukpower.co.uk does list the 13th March price update, but strangely says it doesn't affect online tariffs. Yet we got the letter saying our online prices are changing.0 -
The prices that are charged also vary region to region. I am in the Yorkshire region and have received a letter today. Prices are:
ELECTRICITY
kWh charge for first 225 kWhs used each Qtr 8.63p+ VAT
kWh charge for all other units 5.82p+ VAT
GAS
kWh charge for the first 1465 kWhs used each Qtr 2.88p+ VAT
kWh charge for all other units 1.812p+ VAT0 -
I actually signed up for London Energy yesterday through U Switch, working on the prices quoted on there. so I hope if the prices are wrong I will be informed before the 7 days cooling off period0

The uswitch website states they updated the new London Energy prices on the 16th Feb:
http://www.uswitch.com/Energy/News-February-2006.html?ref=&ReturnURL=%2fEnergy%2fIndex.asp%3fref%3d
Although they also say the 13th March price increase doesn't affect online tariffs. Maybe only for new customers?0 -
Hi
We got a letter re:price rises. I phoned them up to check if we were affected, as i heard that the online prices weren't increasing, so checked what tariff we were on etc.
CS said that we were on the online tarriff and that they were not increasing, at this timenot sure why we got the letter.

Sorry to Winge... and I hope I'm in the right area....but...the following statement appears on the Moneysavingexpert web site and sounds great, except I just realised its incorrect and misleading. Whats going on Martin? Or have I misunderstood something? Is it me?
"If the price rise hasn’t happened yet, don’t worry, when you do a comparison it will be at the ‘post-price-rise price. Comparison services incorporate the new prices as soon as they’re announced, not as they happen"

Had our electricity bill and sure enough the online prices have gone up just like the LE letter said they would. For the period before March they were 8.3p, afterwards they are charging us 9.2p
So the online comparison sites are talking out their behind saying the price rise doesn't effect online tariff customers. So again brings in the question about how accurate such sites are. Unless they mean it doesn't effect new online tariff customers? Such that LE is just bringing the online tariff for existing customers more inline with the one for new customers. Since LE run several online tariff versions depending on when you joined.0 -
I've just got my gas bill from London Energy. I'm on the online v3.1 tariff and have been since November 2005. There has been no price increase.0
