thanks for your replies.....doesnt the financial year usually start in april?? x0

I'm not sure they don't have a monthly budget, but I could be quite wrong. Can you phone and ask them?Signature removed for peace of mind0

They should have money put to one side for certain groups of people considered at risk ie disabled, homeless ect.Tell them you can not afford a loan as your disabled and any extra money is taken up by your extra needs. Id be suprised if they have spent the allocated money as its only May and April is usually the start of the financial year.
It sounds as if they have decided to say its run out to deter people having a grant. They try to offer the loan first.0 -
just to recap on this - i received a letter today from them saying they are sorry but they cant offer me the grant as i do not meet the requirements set out - they try to give the grants to the most needy and my needs do not meet these...????????
really cannot understand why they said the grants had finished on the phone but;
cant see how my needs arent needy enough? surely a bed is one of the most needful items?
just wondering whether i should dispute this???
thanks0 -
For replacement items a loan is what will generally be offered.
Community care grants are generally allocated to people who are just setting up home after being homeless, in a hostel or in a residential home for example.
They are quite difficult to secure & even people from the above category get turned down at times, which I think is quite appauling & told to apply for a budgeting loan instead.
Have a look at the criteria here & if you still think you qualify, think about appealing. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Caringforsomeone/DG_10018921The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
what job has your partner done previously? some charities will deal with certain ones, worth trying . If not ,go down to the library and find the "grants/charities"book (thick blue one in our library) Some charities deal with certain jobs or where you live.0

thanks for your replies all...
cattie;
i think i do meet the criteria as;
already getting Income Support, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, Pension Credit, or payment on account of one of these benefits
WE GET INCOME SUPPORT
and;
you need help because you or your family face exceptional pressure, such as family breakdown or because one of you has a long-term illness
you look after someone who is ill or disabled, or has been released from custody on temporary licence
MY PARTNER HAS A LONG TERM ILLNESS
I LOOK AFTER SOMEONE WHO IS DISABLED....
so to me i meet the criteria????????
carlislelass;
my partner used to work for MFI but its years ago now - hes been ill a long time now....
thanks all0 -
Hi,
the same thing happened to us last year when I applied for a grant as we were moving to an adapted house for my son that had no floor covering in the whole of our 3bdrm house.
We appealed and were successful after making sure that we stipulated that we should have qualified as my son is disabled and his condition is progressive etc.
