Why are you letting them give the money back to you if you need food? Surely they gave you the option to re-process the order thus solving what ever problem they had (assuming they were out of stock) and they keep the money, right?0 -
Can I just say to all those that are pestering UKTigerLilly over whether they should by water or not - Get off their case! The issue here was that ASDA made an error and in doing so decided to cancel the order. I see this quite clearly and its ASDA's fault. It does not matter whether someone only has a few pence left after doing a big shop. That will be true for any benefit claimant.
Also some people cannot afford to go to the store to buy their shopping as the costs of a cab back with all the shopping and the lifting would outweigh the £3-5 spend on delivery. Some people cannot lift heavy items (am not saying that this is the case for the OP).
It stinks when companies preauthorise a transaction and then take days to release the funds. An example of this is Play.com who took four lots of £1 from my account to "verify" that I was the account/card holder. It took three weeks to return my money to me.
I clearly understand the frustration that UKTigerLilly is feeling with ASDA and their error, they should not have carried out multiple preauths as that would have allowed them to allocate over £80 even though only £42 was spent.
Jaffa. Asda had carried out a Preauth they have not taken the money as yet and seeing as they cancelled the sale the money is held in preauth until the company (ASDA) release it back to the bank. As the sale is cancelled they cannot fully claim the money and any resale will trigger another preauth that would fail.BR 31/03/2009AD 31/03/2010 (hopefully)BSC number 257Barclays Cash Card Account with Connect Debit CardMycashplus card0 -
You've obviously forgotten the name of this site. If OP had just vented we trolls wouldn't have replied. OP did NOT just vent. OP brought up "67p" and "no food in the house". The trolls were only judging the purchasing because OP first mentioned the purchases. Many people quite correctly vent about things here but they don't introduce side issues such as no food in the home. Also as I have already stated I totally agree people should spend their money however they wish but just allow for the emergencies that will and do happen.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Hi TL - glad you got your money back at last, and I think it may well be worth contacting Asda to point out that their handling of the situation left a lot to be desired. I see that the thread has changed direction a little since my last post, and while I don't want to join in the water debate, I think there is a point to the idea of having some emergency action plan, although obviously this is made difficult for you by your circumstances. Is there a friend or neighbour you trust who you could give a fiver/tenner to hold for you in case of emergencies like this? That way it's not as rigid as a bank account but not too easy to access because you'll have to explain to the person why you need it before you'll get it!0

This is definitely something i'd like to do, but nobody really knows anyone here, which is crazy! I've lived here for over 3yrs & don't even know who lives next door! If I do get to know anyone who could do that I will definitely do it though as it works very well with the Vet's holding money. I'd probably just pawn my mobile phone though as I never really use it!0 -

Spot on, I didn't realise what they meant at first, it took over a day to work out what they were on about! Yeah the money goes on hold with the bank & isn't then available to me, once cancelled it takes so many days to be released back to my available balance. My Dad came over & took me shopping today so i'm all sorted now! His only day off work is Thursday & so he was able to take me, he said to just get him to take me in future. I hate being dependant on people though at my age & don't want him using his only day off taking me shopping.0 -
This would be fair enough had the OP specifically asked for advice regarding their spending habits, which is quite obviously not the case. The OP doesn't need advice on how best to save money, or it would have been specifically asked for. It does however make a nice change for Trolls to admit that is just what they are.
I freely admit it. However I also say that anyone left without food does need advice. Maybe not sarcastic advice but certainly advice. It's someone else's fault.0 -
I don't need advice, if I wanted it i'd ask for it, i'm intelligent enough to know in an ideal world it's a good idea to have spare cash!0
