True, but I can think of more lavish ways to waste money tbh. In fact buying water is not even a waste
I don't want to offend, however I cant help but notice you spent near on all your cash on that shop, maybe in future you could save £5 in case this sort of thing ever happens again, I take it you did the shop on-line so you could have used that my money supermarket thing and found out where the items were cheaper and spread your shop over 2/3 stores but I guess that depends on delivery price and more hassle if you needed to cancel/reschedule but still the other stores may have delivered where as Asda did not which would have meant you had some food.
Get em' to deduct £5/10 from your next weeks/months wages if you can so you can get some stuff, I really hope it works out for you in the end0 -
UKTigerlily wrote: »I wish people would read my posts, I have said twice (I think!) that I have a medical condition which means I can't save money. I know plenty of people who have a tenner, want ciggies & think ok, cigs are £5, I have enough. They don't think Ohh I don't, cigs costing £11 would mean they don't have enough. If you need other things then ok, you might not be able to afford to buy it, but I don't. If i'd had £5 spare it'd be spent on things I wouldn't want/need or even realise i'd spent on. So what if I have 67p left? I have no need for it. What does it matter if I have £30 or £3 or 30p left over? If someone has £10 & the item is £9 they have enough, if the item is £11 they don't, if they need the item & other things & that would come to more than £10 they don't. I had more than enough to cover £4 on water. I wonder why some people here are on a Moneysaving site when they've obviously NEVER had to borrow money in their lifes! I'mnot even saying I had to borrow, I had more than enough to cover what I wanted!
I'm just glad a few of you haven't ever borrowed or bought anything & been left with a few pence in change! Unfortunately some of us buy what we want & £4 on water isn't exactly me going OTT, if it was squash i'm sure nobody'd say a word!
It's also strange how I personally worked in Asda on the tills & many people would only have £10 left till payday or whatever & spend it on their shopping, I really don't see what me having 67p left has to do with anything, I had the money to cover what I bought & don't need anything else. I shouldn't HAVE to think that Asda won't deliver.
I also don't see what the big issue is that I drink water, I don't drink anything else, don't smoke, never go out or see anybody, don't have a car, don't buy make up or clothes or ANYTHING. If I want to buy £4 of water when I have £42 to spend who cares? And really nobody NEEDS all of the things they buy, people want to!
I'm suprised that people think that me only having 67p is the problem & that I should've made sure to order half a month's worth in case Asda didn't deliver, it's Asda that's the issue here! And like I say not getting water'd mean it got frittered away on things without me realising, and maybe i'd've had £4 now, sure, but that wouldn't take away the problem with Asda or mean I could get a months worth of food now would it?
The fact that you only drink water is not the issue. Nor is the fact that you have a medical condition.
The issue is that you bought something (water) that you could have had for nothing from your tap.
The second issue is that you quite clearly in this case cannot afford the water. You should never budget your entire income to be used by your outgoings - what if there's an emergency?
I do have sympathy for you but also think you are partly in this position due to your own actions. I fully accept the shop screwed the order up and left you short.....but you also bought unnecessary/excessive items and contributed to your own position.
Not smoking, no car, no make up etc are all things you do without either through choice or because of circumstances so why, in this occasion, did you not leave a couple of pounds aside and not buy water which is available for free?????
The question i asked was why buy something you don't need when you are so close to having no money. So far you've not answered it.
You are right in that this is moneysaving site but not everyone who wants to save money has to be in debt or have to borrow money. My idea is still a good one - if you have little money do not buy unnecessary items.

I do understand what people are saying & am sorry i'm annoyed, I don't mean to take it out on people here. I do keep saying/explaining though that due to a medical condition i'm not able to save money & if i'd kept the £4 it'd have been frittered away on things I don't want/need or maybe even wouldn't be aware i'd spent it. Most people with my condition have the same problem & we have to learn that in emergencies it's another downside to being this way & we have to cope.
The only way for me to save money is in one of those accounts where you can't get at it without x amount of notice, which wouldn't be useful in an emergency. Luckily there isn't any emergency that would cause me to need money, nothing can happen that would mean I suddenly need any spare cash.
Well, ok the only thing that can happen is the animals get sick & need a Vet *but* I have over £200 on my account there as I know this could happen (And Insurance) & measures in place to get there, these things have to be planned when you can't save money & having my account in credit at the Vet's is one of my ways of dealing with the problem.
Even if i'd only got the necessary, which for a month would be £20 maybe, they still would've messed up & left me in the same position.
I don't have any problem with how healthy or unhealthy tap water is, I hate the chlorine & it's not suitable for the other uses, I don't buy it all to drink. I know it can stand for days on end & the chlorine goes or something, but that's not possible!
I can't get them to deduct from my wages as I no longer work there, I had to leave due to my illness becoming too severe, though I hope to work again soon. TBH the delivery charges wouldn't make shopping at 2/3 places any easier & I never expected this to happen as I didn't know it could! However, now I do lol
The good news is that the money has gone back into my account tonight when it updated & so now I can try to order elsewhere, depending if I can actually leave the house tomorrow to get anything! I don't think i'll want to shop online again though I know I have no choice if I want shopping, the corner shop is extortionate!
I will be using it all though as i'd rather have water than fritter it away, I once spent £60 on make up & don't wear it & another time spent £500 on a motorbike helmet & gave it away 5 minutes later, so you can see how it could end up!
I hope to one day work out more 'solutions' such as how I work with the Vet's, so I can have money saved & not spend it. All other 'emergencies' are covered, such as if the washer went etc but this wasn't something i'd ever imagine happening.
Still, at least I now don't need to spend all of tomorrow on the phone getting more upset with them & have learnt to take into account it could happen again.
Thanks for reading all & sorry to anyone I upset0 -
The OP didn't ask for advice regarding how to save money in her weekly shop which would make the comments about how she chooses to spend her shopping budget relevent!0

Part of the OPs original post included having very little money and NO food in her home. That made the comments relevant. If the original post had been purely a vent at Asda then no problem but it wasn't.It's someone else's fault.0 -
No food because I leave it until I have literally nothing to get more, through choice not through being broke! It wouldn't matter if I had £3,000 I wouldn't get more until desperate lol0

Please ignore the Trolls, that insist on judging you for your purchases. the OP is posting about the SERVICE not the PRODUCTS. Be it Liquid Gold, NOBODY on here has the right to preach who can buy what.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

You've obviously forgotten the name of this site. If OP had just vented we trolls wouldn't have replied. OP did NOT just vent. OP brought up "67p" and "no food in the house". The trolls were only judging the purchasing because OP first mentioned the purchases. Many people quite correctly vent about things here but they don't introduce side issues such as no food in the home. Also as I have already stated I totally agree people should spend their money however they wish but just allow for the emergencies that will and do happen. It's someone else's fault.0 -
Brought up because it was relevant to why I was so mad, as in if i'd had a house full of food at least I wouldn't have had to worry so much! NOT that i'd've been any happier with them, and I shouldn't need to worry that they might not turn up!0

I'm not criticizing you for bringing it up, just saying that's why others also brought it up. You're quite correct that you shouldn't have to worry about Asda not turning up but it happens as we can see from many delivery threads on this forum and that's why we need even a very small emergency fund. That's all I'm trying to put across. Things do go wrong so we need a plan B when they do.It's someone else's fault.0
