For Northerners gone a bit soft or with a sweet tooth how about custard flavour yorkshire puds.
Or perhaps use it in the batter on your fish and chips.

I have a tin of custard powder which is 3 years out of date which has lost much of it's flavour. What else can I use it for?

  • You just need to add some more flavour.
In the case of plain custard the only flavouring is vanilla so add some essence/extract to taste and it'll be fine.

Use it to amaze your kids by using it to demonstrate the properties of a Non-Newtonian Fluid.

Probably the best use of custard powder anyway. Far better than making custard even!!

I would just add vanilla to it too.

If you have a lot you could fill the bath and walk on it - I've always wanted to try that!

    It's only a game

Try these lovely cupcakes - they were in one of my Good Food magazines and I keep meaning to try them myself:

I tried these this evening... not sure what went wrong but they didn't work. Possbily need to cream butter and sugar first before adding the other ingredients.

I always assumed custard powder contained powdered eggs as well as cornflour, but it would appear I was way out lol.
So basically if you mixed cornflour, a pinch of salt some sugar a bit of vanilla essence and hot milk you would get a white custard?
