Recipes for custard powder

Hi
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for using custard powder. I bought a 3 kilo sack for £2. I have a recipe for custard biscuits but thought some of you might have other recipes. Thanks
Starting to save £2 coins again, but it is a struggle:rotfl:Not doing very well keep spending them

you could try delias ice cream: http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/cinnamon-ice-cream,920,RC.html
  • Wow 3kg of custard powder! How about making a trifle? Or stew some fruit and serve with custard for an easy dessert? Sorry I don't have any actual recipes but maybe others will!

What is the use-by or best before date?

3 kilos of yellow cornflour  Why did you buy it if you don't know what to do with it?

To make it nutritionally worth while I would make it up with milk (making it more expensive of course but at least milk has nutritive value) and freeze it in usable amounts;)

Firstly, some people do not realise that all custard powder consists of is coloured/sweetened cornflour ( apparently invented by Mr Bird in early Victorian times because his wife was allergic to eggs ). Secondly, I don't think the OP is lacking in knowledge of " what to do with it " per se, just some different ideas as to how to use up a large amount. I do think it is rather unkind to criticise someone's elses purchases like that, we all buy stuff on impulse sometimes for whatever reason, mm ?

Ok. getting back to the point. Custard powder is mainly cornflour, so it will keep for a long time ( even with best before dates etc ). Apart from the usual uses - trifle, hot or cold on fruit pies, crumbles, puddings, fresh/tinned/stewed fruit etc etc, a nice way of using it for summer is to make fruit fools, basically cold made up custard whipped together with a bit of cream and stewed fruit like gooseberries or rhubarb. I don't have a recipe to hand but I can find one if you like.

Oh I'd be the size of a house if I'd found this bargain as I love Manchester Tarts and they can be made with custard made from custard powder.

Also theres banana custard. It tastes divine and you get one of your five a day to boot

I have a recipe somewhere for custard cake that uses custard powder in it.I'll dig it out if you want it

Another version of custard sponge is to bake a normal victoria sponge and fill it with extra thick custard and jam.Glace Ice the top, sprinkle with desiccated coconut and plonk a glace cherry in the middle. My lot love this cake

Another idea is to make a fool.No not the funny type I mean the dessert.Make a thick custard, stir in some semi whipped cream and pureed fruit i.e gooseberries or rhubarb

Theres a few ideas for you to be working on

Think shortbread is made from cornflour  you could make that , it would use loads up and I think that you could freeze it. It would also keep for a while in a tin.
