Hi guys,
My friend's father recently past away 1 week ago. The funeral was done quickly and has asked my advice on rebates / reimbursments.
Is it possible to claim money back on funeral costs or any other costs associated with the death?
Cheers for any advice given.
Thanks.
Fabs.

Claim money back from whom? Taxation, benefits - a little more info would probably help...0

There are some benefits available. I would have thought the undertaker could point in the right direction. They are only available if the person who died did not leave enough money to cover it and the person responsible for the funeral is in receipt of benefits.0

As Pee said - if the person who paid for the funeral (so not the person who passed away!) is on benefits AND there was not enough money in the estate to cover it then some of it can be reclaimed.
Full details from HEREHow much do you get?
A Funeral Payment includes necessary burial or cremation fees, certain other specified expenses and up to £700 for any other funeral expenses, such as the funeral director's fees, the coffin or flowers.
If the person who died had a pre-paid funeral plan, you'll only get help for items not already covered by the plan.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

There is also a potential £2k bereavement allowance if the deceased has a wife who is in receipt of certain benefits...if you google brereavement allowance you should find it.0

If the person who died is under 60 and has a partner then that partner is entitled to a widows pension for a year.
If the person is under 60 then the family are also entitled to some funeral cost allowance as well
See your funeral director (thats what my family where entitled to 5 years ago and things probably will have changed so just ask - its part of the service they offer)Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
