Is this a good deal from 3??

Hi, has anyone got any views on this offer from Carphone Warehouse using 3 network? 18 month contract, effectively at £17.50 after discounts and cashback. Free LG phone, 400 mins + 250 txts per month. As it's Carphone Warehouse I assume there's a good chance of getting the cashback. Total outlay £315 over 18 months. Can anyone comment please, it sounds quite attractive to me.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Seems INCREDIBLY pricey - taking into account cashbacks & discounts.

There are plenty of offers available on 3 Network that can reduce your monthly contract to about £5, after discounts/cashback + if you go through Quidco, you can get an additional £25+ back.

Can you provide a link to the model/contract - and I am sure we will find you a much much better equivalent deal - for 12 months, not 18:)

    Eg:-

  • good thing I asked then.... sorry I'm hopeless at all this. It was a telephone call to Carphone Warehouse so I don't have a link to the offer. I think the phone was LGU880, I'm not sure of the tariff name but it was £35 normal price for the 400 mins and 250 txts.

I'm trying to find a phone with decent spec (inc camera etc) and about that number of mins/txts.

Thanks again! and any more leads welcome
  • PS not too sure about relying on getting cashback from internet dealers... I've read some posts with horror stories

I have had 4 cashback deal swith e2save.com and no problems - also they are owned by Carphone Warehouse :)

If you do by from them, just make sure you receive all the neccessar docs (eg your Cashback Vouchers) with your order. If not , call them IMMEDIATELY to let them know. The worst thing you could do is leave it until your 1st cashback is due - realise you dont have the vouchers, and then be told that you no longer are eligible for ccashback.

Good luck simpleton (great nick btw:))

Not sure if you're interested since you mentioned you're hesitant about cashback deals... but TheMobileOutlet.co.uk has those U880 phones available on 12-month contract with 11-months free after cashback. So, total cost should be £35.

    LG U880 Muse Black

They have a number of phones on a "12-month contract. 12-months free" deal. Including the LG 8360 and LG 8380 phones.
  • Thanks very much for these leads - looks like you've saved me £££££ but they almost seem too generous.. is the only catch in the 'cashback'?

I'm pretty new to this, so I'm only guessing... but I imagine these "free-phone + free-rental" deals are relying on 2 things to make money...
    1. They're hoping you mess up your cashback claim
    2. They're hoping you make calls beyond your "free" time

I don't use my mobile much, so I'm going to try one of those deals and just hope I don't mess up the cashback :)
  • presumably the monthly bill serves as a reminder of the cashback claim - I'm more bothered about the retailer going out of business which could cost 35x12= £420 on a 12 month contract if you have to keep paying and get no cashback.

I have seen some deals which are a mix of cashback and actual rental discount.

OSPS has the LGu880 on TTV700 for total annual cost of £156 - £20 Quidco. Mixture of direct credit (£37), network offer (£52.50) and cashback (3 x £58).
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

If you use the reputable ones like CarphoneWarehouse/e2save/TheLink etc, then you will be fine. The only catch is that that LOTS of people forget to claim their cashback or cancel their free add ons (after 3 months).

Thats how they make their money-and a site like this is here to prevent US from making those mistakes :)
