bestattravel.co.uk - A WARNING !

Anyone lured onto bestattravel.co.uk website, be aware of their ' interesting ' pricing structure.

Let me explain...

I went to their website for a particular holiday, put our dates in, and up popped their deals, excellent they were too.

So, I called them, all excited about it, credit card in hand.

However, down to earth with an almighty crash when they inform me that the prices clearly quoted online for our dates are not the prices at all. In fact their system automatically finds the cheapest price for the holiday you want for the entire year ( ) and then quotes that

So you put your dates in and it finds some random off peak cheap deal and quotes for that, whilst CLEARLY stating YOUR prefered dates.

I wont go so far as to call them con men, however I think it is very naughty and they do it so you call and then they can try to talk you round.

Not happy !!

Many holiday sites do this and i completely agree with you in that it is a con.

A few years back you would price up a flight (and most airlines did this) and you would get a price. Only after entering all your details and getting through to the final payment page did it actually become clear that you weren't actually only paying x amount, but a much larger amount.

The EU brought out legislation that essentially says in regards to flights any price must include all the taxes/fees.

That was most likely a direct result of people taking the time to contact agencies such as Consumer Direct ect and complaining. That is what i would urge you to do.

And not only a few years ago. I got a quote from Major Travel for flights with a scheduled airline, not a low cost carrier, about 10 days ago and it was only after I entered my personal details and email address did the price change from £321 to £403. Sharp practise at best.

I am already waaay ahead of you ;);)

Called consumer direct, nice lady but not what I would call too concerned, she is passing onto trading standards. Dont know if anything will come of it, I guess if others complain then maybe.

The quote I got went up by over £1000

Shocked about this! I've used them a couple of times and its been fine. Maybe because we go off peak in September?

I think I'll try them in the next few days and see if I get the same problem. Not much point in quoting an online price if thats the case.

Same experience, but ended up booking last week as they had the flights we wanted at a cheaper price than other sites.

I spoke to best at travel about my trip to Orlando. £534 each (about the same as I booked for last year) quoted online but on the phone was told £699 each a total of £330 extra for the two of us.

They said the web site is just a brochure nothing more it doesn’t give interactive quotes.

Shame as this makes my trip over budget especially with the car hire being an extra £100 from last year and the difference in the exchange rate making the same about of dollars £140 extra.

A total of £570 more for the same holiday as last year! Not that I’m blaming best at for that but their web pricing isn’t great!

    Its misleading if nothing else.

Personally I wouldnt book with them after they pull a stunt like that to entice you in, out of sheer bloodymindedness.

I have already posted this on another thread on here. But just to say that my experience with bestattravel is poor. Not only did we have the same issue with their "average price for the year" quote but they also owe me money which they refuse to refund.

Basically they took extra money off me during the booking process and now refuse to refund it. It's been 3 months now and no sign of it coming back to me.
