Any AGP card will be fine. Have a look around, as I'm sure there are better bargains to be had. You should be able to find an upgrade for that price.

Could it be something in her room stopping it from working. and to top it all the other card is a no go it's damaged. any ideas please. could it be steel beams interfering ?

    hi there

on booting up the pc go into the advance settings by pressing the F8 BEFORE it boots to Windows XP and choose enable VGA mode

This will boot you into windows with a low-res screen setting and if the screen stays on then the card is ok and probably just needs a driver update

    regards

Will give this a go tomorrow the kids are in bed so i'd rather not disturb them.(the comp is in her room)
The really weird thing is that it works in the living room fine no probs but when i put it back in her room it wouldn't even show the boot screen. so i will need to move it all tomorrow...again.

Check again that the lead to the monitor is screwed tightly at both ends. Take it out and even try swapping it around end to end if it's possible. It may not as some are permanently fitted to the monitor.

Is it plugged through an extension lead or suchlike? Can you plug it straight into a plug socket to rule it out?

waiting on my dad he said he would test the plugs in the room. i already thought of the extension on so ran them in sockets but the same thing happened. tested the plug already but my dad has one of those fancy ones that gauge everything just in case.
