Hi all i gave my daughter OH's computer as we got a new one but when i conected it after about 10 min the monitor started to flicker and was left with very small lines across it. now the screen keeps going into sleep mode.
i assume that it is the Graphics card as i have tried 2 tft screens (tried them on new comp and they worked fine). so here's the thing i have never touched a graphics card and i could do with some advice as to how to tell what graphics card i have and will need.(obviously switching on the comp is not gonna work lol)

then i would appreciate what is best to get how to install and a rough price would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

edit: card and screen work fine in the living room but when i take them back into bedroom the picture goes. any ideas other than the cables as i've tried several.

    what model is your computuer?

    what os are you on?

as for the card if you right click the desktop and go to properties and then settings it may say there
if not then if on xp go to the start menu>run and type devmgmt.msc

this will bring up device management, here you can uninstall your graphics card driver (device adaptor).

on vista just tyoe dev in the search bar and click on device manager when it appear and do the same thing

note right click the display adaptor in device adaptor and click uninstall, the computer will then prompt you to restart, do this and on reboot wait for the os to reinstall the drivers automatically
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

oh ok sorry got the impression you could still have some use ability put of it.

so no external monitors work at all?

also the exact model of your pc would really help...
maybe on the box or manual?

which computer has the problem...the old or the new?

either way, I'd check that the connection to the monitor is good and tight (back of the pc) then, if that isn't the problem, have the side off the computer and reseat the graphics card (remove and refit).
If it really is broken..there are hundreds of cards available..and a few different sockets..so at a minimum we'll need to know what type of pc it is (whether the motherboard has AGP (older) PCI-E (newer) socket..or something else :D

    Fuji Siemens
    Scaleo 600

it will just be getting used for home work and the occasional dvd so wont need to be a expensive gaming one.

sorry for the confusion about the screen i'm on the lap top just now.

    glad i helped

looks like its a pci interface so just do some research to find out what you need.

im thinking it may be worth wile to try a card from another machine just in case though?

I assume if you've given it to your daughter you have moved the machine.

If that's the case, try reseating the PCI card before you do anything else. It may just have jiggled loose in the case in transit. Could be very simple (had a callout to similar recently) and very inexpensive to fix.
