Malc,
I don,t believe this has been covered. Please help me keep what hair I have left. EON customer, good start. I have underfloor water heating and the times of tariff appear to be ideal for me. My problem is the suitablity of meter. I have 3 phase supply and my various demands spread over the the three phases all working on single phase. I cannot afford to lose a phase. Does the supply to my dedicated space and water heating demands have to solely use one of the phases, and during the off-peak (out of tariff times) is electricity cut off from those appliances?
I tied this week to get an E10 meter fitted but Siemens were unable to do this on arriving at my premises as the above would occur, ie during down time no power to heating.
You seem extremely knowledgeable so a conversation with you might be beneficial.
Any suggestions if this proposal will not work please?
Regards

Hi rasbespoke
I have to say, I'm no technician and some of the questions you are asking are definitely outside my area of expertise.
I do know, though, Economy 18 is a single phase set up only and is, therefore, probably not suitable for your requirements.
You possibly need some form of multi meter arrangement but this may not be cost effective.
As I say, I'm no expert in such matters and I would recommend you talk to our specialist metering people. They are much better placed to advise.
Sorry I can't be of more assistance rasbespoke.

E18 is single phase as malc says. If you need 3 phases, you need a 3 phase meter. E10 works by having a day, night & heat circuit. You then wire to them so that the heat kicks in when the timeswitch clicks it on, the night dial would operate what is connected to it at certain off peak times through the night. However, in the case of E7/E10 etc, when recording on night dials, you will get your day applicances at this off peak rate. Remember E10 needs 2 MPAN's as it's classed as 2 meters, the heating being the second unless it's a 1 MPAN style E10 which do also exist.
Malc, you can check out. Check the SSC, GSP, PC and find the MTC. The description against the MTC will say if available as single or as 3 phase. If not, the only other way would be to askl the Meter Operator if they can use the SSC/PC/MTC combination against a 3 phase meter. That would mean a more specialised visit to fit it though as it's a non standard affair where normally single phase would go in.
Honestly, I doubt this is going to be possible but this is how it could be checked. However, this could be an old property set up and you can have a 3 phase supply without a single phase meter on, if the property does not need the power of 3 phase hence could be rewired to single phase by an electrician.
Not if any if that will help, but it's possibly something to check.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Hi Terry
Happy to do these checks if rasbespoke would like. Just need a bit more info from them.
I have to say I agree with you though; it doesn't sound particularly possible, even with my limited technical knowledge.
rasbespoke, if you would like me to check a bit deeper, please drop an email to the address in my Profile.

Hi Malc,
Good to have found this forum. We have just been converted to Economy 18 and I have a small problem I hope you can answer. The clock on our meter is one hour slow at present which means our switching times are out by one hour from those indicated. Can the time be reset? What happens when we change the clocks at the end of the month does the meter clock change?
Thanks0 -
Hi Tinkerer
Economy 18 meters are fitted with a radio-tele switch to control the times the meter switches between rates.
With radio-tele switches, the times are not subject to change when the clocks go forward or back.
Therefore, as your clock is currently one hour slow, this will be corrected when the clocks go back at the end of this month.
Hope this helps Tinkerer. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to advise.

Thanks but sorry I'm still confused. A radio-tele switch sounds to me as if it may be set remotely. If it corrects at the end of this month because nothing happens what happens next spring? Does it mean the clock is always one hour slow during the summer?
Thanks0 -
Hi Tinkerer
Yes, that's right. The time on radio-tele switches are not subject to change when the clocks go back or forward.
Consequently, for part of the year, the clock will always be an hour slow.
Sorry I didn't explain this clearly last time Tinkerer but hope this clarifies what happens. Again, give me a shout if you need any more info.

Hi,
Can you confirm what this means for the times the 3 rates apply.
e.g. In winter time the if the night rate is 00:30 to 07:30
would it in summer time be 01:30 to 08:30?
Thanks0
