If you seriously think a degree is an indication of acamedic elitism then i am so glad my children aren't taught by you.
I dont think my degree is a form of elitism (and i can guarantee with reasonable comfort that it is higher than yours).
This is the fundamental problem teachers have.
:rotfl:Oh dear, I think you must have forgotten to read the next sentence of my post:
I don't see that as being particularly elite, but perhaps you have hang ups about being 'educated'?
How nice for you to be able to judge what the 'fundamental problem' of thousands of different people is though.
I haven't the slightest interest in the level of your degree...which must be particularly disappointing for you, as I'm sure you're dying to tell us all.0 -
Many teachers have degree(s) in the plural, and they are not all educationally biased, some are subject specific, some are not. Therefore it is impossible to guess whether your degree is more academic than anyone who is currently teaching.
Similarly, there are few other occupations where the future of the next generation is in your hands. Most people go to work and the results show in their company profits and their own salary/career path, not so teachers, their results are far more long lasting and important.0 -

Bash my opinions all you want to!
At the end of the day, the way you moan about your professions, and the way you need to tell anyone that will listen how hard done by you are, all points to the fact that:
a). you are in the wrong profession
and/or
b) you are a poor example of your profession with the opinions you so avidly put across.
What a ridiculously immature statement.
You are wrong on so many levels. None of the teachers on here are, as far as I can make out, saying they are hard done by - they are merely being forced to defend themselves because of some of the amazingly uninformed comments which regularly appear on this forum.
Just for the record my OH is voluntarily in school this week taking revision classes for the GCSE exams next week. She was shocked at the number of kids who have their maths GCSE on Monday morning who have gone off on holiday abroad and will not be attending the classes, some of whom could well do with the extra time to revise (I very much doubt any revision will be done around the poolside in Turkey despite the inevitable protestations which will follow!).0 -

Because you altered your post to suit.
Another example of sparkling 'non intellect'.0 -

Thats like asking why we arent all fighter pilots or zookeepers.
Yes, it's exactly like asking that - answer to the first is because academically, I couldn't qualify to be a fighter pilot and it's a dangerous, life threatening job, answer to the second, I don't like animals or shovelling s**t. My point remains, that nobody chooses their career 'because otherwise we'd all do the same job' - nobody ever asked themselves that question when chosing their career. If you really thought teaching was a holy grail of cushy umbers, you'd have trained to do it - you'd be extremely stupid not to.
What amsues me, especially reading 'teacher' responses in this thread, is the way in which you portray yourselves as hard done by but also academically elite in some way.
Teachers haven't portrayed themselves as hard done by - they've responded to unfair comments by people who have no idea what the job is actully like. We are academically 'elite' as you put it, in the sense that we are a profession, and like all professions, require a degree to do our job. I don't see that as being particularly elite, but perhaps you have hang ups about being 'educated'?
As you obviously have poor eyesight, I have requoted the whole of the post you have stated I have edited. Perhaps you can point out which bit I 'altered to suit'?0 -
In fact it is Woody who has edited his post.
Milliebear quoted him in post 82, but if you look at the post she quoted it is actually different now. He has gone from saying he is reasonably sure his degree is higher than yours, to saying his degree is more academic.:D see the new post as quoted by Greg1 in post 84.
Clearly he decided he wasn't sure if his degree was higher than those amongst us who teach!!0 -
Ooh well spotted Poet. I am thinking Woody is a time-wasting troll, and I shouldn't waste anymore time on him/her!0
