    In that case the Hard Disk is almost certainly dead or very badly corrupted. In that situation I'd find out what make it is and download the diagnostic tools from the maker's website. Most offer a bootable ISO image that will let you check for sure if it is beyond saving - typically if SMART monitoring has tripped you should never trust it again, even if a re-format works.
