    This might sound a wee bit mad.
    Try pushing trhe brake pedal up & down & wobbling the key around.
    Had worked for me.

    Well, here's an odd thing. The key is out. When hubby took the battery out the key came out. So, he connected the battery again and I started the car. But the key got stuck again. So, we need to get it to the garage. But, at least the key is out, for now. Thanks for your help everyone.

    it sound like it might be a locking device that gets disengaged when its out of drive so you can remove the key.

    I've not got a Toyota... but somewhere amongst all the documentation for my car, maybe in the official servicing guide.... it warns in big bold letters with !... not to get any grease in the ignition key barrel.

    So I guess that is true for WD-40.

    Maybe it is to do with electronics and immobiliser stuff that is in the key barrel. Only mentioning that in case the same is true for other cars.

    IIRC, it's to do with WD40 leaving a residue that can attract gunk and goo it up over time. What I've heard HIGHLY recommended (and for yales too) is graphite based lube...it's dry, so none of that is an issue.

    Might get some for mine, it's a tad sticky feeling.
