Hi , I hope someone can help
For the past couple of weeks I am getting numerous calls to my (Orange pay as you go) mobile. The calls are from a private number, and are coming all hours of the day and night, ranging from 9 am until 3.15 am the follwoing day! Sometimes it rings once then cuts off, sometimes I answere it and it is silent, sometimes they hang up immediately I answer, other times there is just silence for up to 2 minutes. In one day I had 17 at least.
I have tried to speak to Orange who said there is nothing they can do, they cannot trace who is making these calls and all I can do is change my number, which I really do not want to do. After asking to speak to a surpervisor at Orange, I was put on hold for 15 minutes, then got through to a chap who said "I understand you wish to change your number!"
I really dont want to change my number if possible, does anyone know how I can put an end to these calls which are frankly a pain in the neck, especially in the middle of the night!

My phone (Samsung Soul) has an option to add a number to reject list.
I go through to my list of calls and then choose options and then add to reject list.
Maybe your phone has a similar option??
Good Luck0 -

Yes, that function is on Samsung and a good idea. Sadly that would not work for the OP because you can not block private numbers through the ignore list , only shown numbers.
However , It may worth signing up to the "Telephone preference service" as if it is a advertising company ringing , this could probably prevent it or stop it??
Either way , its worth registering on here anyway

Thanks, as it is a private number, that would not work sadly.
I am already signed up to TPS, will check it is my home and mobile number.
Just had another 2 calls, grrrr!0 -
Just ignore them. If its some pathetic person taking the mick it's no where near as fun if the person doesn't answer. Just leave them, they'll soon get bored.0

If you have a decent N series Nokia or other pgone with a s60 operating system (google your phone and check the full spec) you can buy software that blocks certain numbers you set (including witheld or unknown)
It may be easy to change to a phone that has this type of operating system- the software ranges from free to $20 (yes I typed dollars)
Hope this helpsbaldly going on...0 -
Hi thanks, will look into that although my phone is a Nokia 6230i so not sure. I dont want to block ALL private numbers though, as for example if the children's school ring me, that comes up as a private number, so does my partner's work and obviously I need those calls to get through.
thanks for all the advice so far, much appreciated0 -

Just thought I would update you on this thread.
I have contacted Orange (thanks Jonathan) and the police, and eventually after much to-ing and fro-ing from one to the other, Orange have passed the number that is calling me to the police.
Orange cannot give me the number, but have told me that it is not a call centre or automatic dialler, it is a mobile number from a different network to mine, and that from Oramge looking at my phone records, they can see that I have never dialled the number myself, so it must be a random person who has got my number. The calls are getting much more frequent, about 140 received last week with up to 40 in one day! Sometimes the caller just stays on the phone for up to 10 mins, you can hear background noise and moving about but nobody says anything. It doesnt matter whether I pick up the call or let it go to answer phone, they just keep on calling over and over, I am logging all calls and sometimes it looks like this : Time received: 21.02, 21.03 21.04, 21.07, 21.10, 21.11, 21.12 etc etc on and on!
the police say they will trace whoever owns the number, tell me who it is, then contact them with a warning to stop the calls, if the calls continue the police say they can then issue a harassment notice warning the caller of intended action.
Hopefully this will happen fairly soon, the saddo who is doing it will get a rap on the knuckles and leave me in peace!0 -
The saddo is also going to get a very large phone bil!No free lunch, and no free laptop0

yes indeed! Orange said it must be someone on a contract rather than pay as you go, due to the amount of calls they are making!0
