If you were happy with the price, then why don't you just sell and then rent until you find something else? You'd be crazy not to, and it will put you in a much better position when buying again, as you'll have no house to sell, so can put some cheeky offers in!
Good point! Actually the more I think about it the more I think the OP is being mental. You have given up looking for a house after only 8 weeks? It might take you 8 months to sell next time!0 -
madpam saidTBH we didn't expect a buyer to come along so soon
- err.. so why did you put it on the market - are you saying you put it up for sale expecting nobody to buy it??
Pay up: You clearly strung the EA along and owe them (Can't believe I typed that !)
Cheers!

Oh, and if the EA is unable to take credit cards at present, they're unlikely to sign up for it just to take your payment. I gather there's an up-front cost for merchants to get connected to the CC company, and an ongoing monthly cost to them as well....0

My Mums house went on sale only two weeks ago and we sold it 6 days later. We're over the moon for such a quick sale and we're keeping our fingers crossed for a smooth ride. I think our buyers would be gutted if we pulled out now. Think OP should consider renting too, terrible waste of time and money on both sides.0

We've also just "bought" a house, only a few days after going on sale -- we're honest, hard working people, paying for valuation, solicitor, etc ... Would be heartbroken if things fell through because vendors changed their mind. Might post some old fish heads to the vendors if they did ....0 -
I am not an estate agent fan as such, but if they marketed the place, found people to buy it and then the seller decided to pull out, I think they have a case to charge the fee. They did what they were asked to do.
I'm afraid buying and selling doesn't always involve going from one place to another in sweet tandem. We had to rent for a bit when we sold a previous place, as we hadn't anywhere else to go to at the time. It was actually a nice feeling to think we had the money and could proceed quickly when we found the right house.
Anyhow, so long as they get paid, I can't see how they would quibble with how it is done!

It isn't necessarily a matter of quibbling, they may not actually have the facilities to accept cards as it's not really a business where payments are made "over the counter"What goes around - comes around0 -
We put our house on the market and sold it within 8 weeks. We have now decided to take the house off the market as we are unable to find anything on a par with our own.
We have now received a bill from the Estate Agent. As they actually sold it they have asked for the full amount as if the sale had actually gone through.
Does anyone think they will accept a credit card for payment as the bill says "make cheques payable to".
In my experience the attitude with agents varies quite a lot.
Some will NOT invoice you.
Some will try and get the full amount but I know where this has gone to court and was found against the agent - unfair terms. Also the that the the deal never went to a 'legal completion'
Some will charge a cancellation fee but which is far less than the full amount - £500 type of amount to cover expenses.
You need to find out, in writing, from your agent why they feel justified in charging the full amount. Then see if they are members of professional bodies - NAEA. Then call NAEA to ask their opinion. Then perhaps Consumer Direct.
I would never of dreamed of trying to get full fees but would of asked for an 'expense covering' amount.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. In latter part of career specialising in commercial - mostly business sales.0
