My daughter took out a contract with phones4U for a phone and plan with Vodaphone, some 6 months on she found out that they were charging her £6.99 p/m insurance on the handset, without her knowledge. Having contacted the insurance company concerned for an explanation she was told that the standard procedure would be that the original phone conversation between her and P4U would be examined for content regarding insurance, guess what P4U could not provide this transcript so a complete refund has been made. Dodgy practice methinks which amounts to theft of money from her bank account.

It took her six months to find out that someone was taking money from her account?I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

It does say you have to cancel your phone insurance within a certain period, so that you will not be charged after your free period!0

Whats dodgy is that she didnt notice for 6 months that money was coming out of her account0

Phones4U gave me the hard sell in one of their shops. They got really impatient when I had a look through the small print and realised that the first form was just so they could sell my personal details to advertisers.
Not only that, but I had insisted I wanted a 12 month contract. Again, the small-print said that it was for 18-months. "Oh, don't worry about that - you won't be tied in for 18 months. Give us a call after a year and we'll sort something out." was the guilty-faced response.
I could also say that they tried to sell me a different phone to the one I wanted on a network I said I would never use.
I'd rather buy a phone off Dell Boy than Phones4U!0 -
At least they refunded your money for you... they took out a new direct debit and proceeded to withdraw £6.99 from my account AFTER I cancelled!
They as of yet have not acknowledged my written request for a refund.0 -
At the time she was getting her bank statements every 6 months, it was only when she went onto internet banking and read her details online that it all came to light,
There was no paperwork regarding phone insurance sent to her so she had no choice of cancellation. All this arose from a number of badgering phone calls from a phones4U rep about insurance to which she always replied No "stop phoning me".
needless to say she will not be renewing with that shower again."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0 -

Actually, P4Us contracts only say 18m as a default, if they set you on a 12m deal then you would have been on one.
There, thats the 1 and only time I'm saying anything in the defense of P4U.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

That doesn't make sense. Phones4U attempted to fraudulently misrepresent the details in the contract. They told me is was a 12 month contract. The small print said 18 months.
I'm just glad I walked away...0
