Shot myself in the foot already, forgot to take anything out of the freezer this morning so will have to go shopping today,

Hi Jo! (& FUAS) (well, & everyone else of course)

I have a list of meals I can make either out of cupboard or indeed the freezer, I never EVER have to go shopping just for dinner. I am greatly helped in being OS by the fact that shops are miles away as are takeaways, & nobody delivers pizza etc out where I live.

You already mentioned a tuna / pasta meal (yum!) that you did, always keep in pasta & rice they are quick (except I only like brown rice which takes forever...), & jars of pasta sauce (someone else already said that).

If you buy frozen sausages (half-fat of course ;)) they can be cooked from frozen. Also cod / haddock / smoked haddock / pollock fillets if you buy bags of frozen can be cooked from frozen, & not a breadcrumb in sight. If you have Iceland they are really cheap & as the advert says, all can be cooked from frozen, even meat.

My main OS money saver is to buy loads of anything that we regularly use when it's on offer, so one week I might buy 6 months worth of chicken (!!)& another week I might buy no meat or fish at all if none of it is cheap enough. This contradicts what others have said...I never keep to a shopping list & I reckon I save a fortune by stocking up on offers - anything witha long shelf life or can be frozen. Currently working my way through 24 tins of tuna that were on bogof :o you do need some restaint!

There's only me & young daughter at home but we have a "proper" meal 6 nights a week (I'm with your OH on that one!) meat or fish with veg etc & it never costs more than £3 for the two of us :D. Often less than £1 a head.

    I won't touch ready meals!

Oh yes, another quickie is omelette.

Thank you WB (where the h3ll you bin?? missing you :))

I'd just actually planned to take the kids to McD's for lunch for a treat (sorry to OS'ers :)) and I have to park in the Iceland car park, so I shall go in there and do some stocking up - thanks for the tip, don't usually shop in there.

Hope to 'see' you soon xx

    Once I start posting I can't stop!
I HATE gardening but this year am growing toms in a grow-bag, potatoes in a big flower pot (you just plant one & end up with loads, apparently) & onions / peas & broad beans in a plastic trough. It all seems quite easy so far!! If all else fails, my best mate has just taken on a massive allotment so will keep in with her :D

Hi, bear with me for this as fairly new and a bit of a technophobe, but been reading through the thread to get some brilliant ideas as I thought I was reading about myself:rolleyes:. But could you clarify something (as a bit thick about things like this) on one of the links one of the ladies (sorry cant remember her name) put that she had say meat for Sunday roast and then had the leftovers on the Tuesday in another meal. So would you freeze the leftovers on the Sunday night or would it be ok in the fridge??? Many thanks.

The meat from roast would be fine on tuesday as long as it was put in the fridge.

Feeling quite chuffed with myself, just got the 1 pack of diced pork out of the freezer, I'd normally defrost 2 then have too much and chuck it away

Bought a pepper and mushrooms on reduced and bought a red onion. Found some skewers in the cupboard and a pack of Ainsley Harriet's cous cous which is within date at the back of the cupboard (only just ), so a cheap and cheerful dinner for me :D

I've just been reading through the thread, I'm about to move into my first house and just looking at how much I could save and all the yummy things I can do make me excited to cook in my kitchen - I'm a queen of the ready meals at the moment, but like the idea of a lot of these and am thinking I might even set myself a target to plan my meals accordingly and cook in bulk and freeze some separate portions when I move out :D

    Thanks all - I'm completely inspired :)

How did you get on with batch cooking?
I had the first meal from mine last night (spag bol) it was delish but OH complained about portion size even though I thought I had spooned enough in.

I found that when deforsting in the fridge it does make the fridge smell quite strong of the food.
