Is it possible for this girl to be permanently OS?

Glamazon, thanks again for the links, this mince basic recipe is great!! I might do this today, though I normally use half beef and half pork to cut down on the red meat plus I like the smoky (bacon'y) smell when cooking! This is perfect because the kids aren't keen on chilli but I can make smaller batches up just for them for spag bol or jacket pots.
All I need to do now is buy some plastic tubs to store it in, am I starting to come across as completely non-OS now
Make sure you have some big saucepans on stand by - I used a HUGE pot to cook it in and had to split it up quite quickly as once the tomatoes go in there is so much.
I got 18 meals out of it, I do like to find some meat in my chilli! So didn't put 6 cans of beans in, I put 2 and a half kidney beans and one baked beans.
I got some plastic containers in ASDA for 48p which are ideal size for two portions. However, I spooned most of it into freezer bags into 2 person portions. Flattened the bag completey, lay it down in the freezer and now I can stack them up and fit loads in there!!!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

That's a great idea, and cheaper in the short term, saves me buying loads of plastic boxes, plus the freezer isn't that big.
Dobs, welcome and feel free to post any queries as your questions might be mine too!! I'm still shocked and stunned about the rubber chicken, but was also amazed at the amount of meat came off 3 chicken legs last night.....and I was going to use all 6......for 2 of us   :eek:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Morning all,
I've taken some diced pork leg out of the freezer for tonight, OH did buy 2 packs and wants me to take both out but thought I'd ask you guys first
The pack is something like 450g and I was going to use it for maybe kebabs. Would there be enough there for 2 or 3 of us, I'm thinking no but 2 packets would be too much and a waste.
What could I bulk the kebabs out with, or should I use it for something else, I'm easy either wayDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Morning Jo. If your putting the kebabs in a pitta bread then grated carrot buks it out really well, never thought I or OH would have liked it but its yum
Couscous and roasted veg is nice with it too. I'l admit I 'cheat' with rosted veg and just bung it in the george foreman.
Huston's chicken soup sounds scrummy but for an easier version I normally just bung in loads of frozen veg and noodles and whatever herbs/sauces are in the kitchen.I don't strain my chicken stock either, I just fish around for the bones. (with clean hands when its cooled down)

Oh, completely forgot Jo, if you make stock remember that when it cools down it goes 'jellified' which personally grossed me out the first time I made it. Don't worry, it goes back to liquid when heated up again and freezes really well.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Thanks for the stock tip SmlSave. Good idea too about the carrot, I've only took the one pack out the freezer so I hope it's enough :eek:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0

450g for 3 of you should be plenty. You could put some veg on the kebabs with the meat. Sliced corn cob, or baby corn, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and onions.0

450g is plenty for 3 people!
I made 450g of chicken do 6 people - admittedly it was more tomatoes, kidney beans and peppers (mexican chicken) with rice but we were both full!
If you are doing kebabs on a skewer - why not put a piece of pork, then a piece of pepper or onion?
googling Pork Kebabs gives you loads of receipes!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

You could make lasagne but use baked beans instead of the meat. If you've already made a shepherd's pie during the week try a variation - add chilli, garlic and tinned tomatoes to the mince mixture and call it mexican pie.
