Romantic October Break: Naples or Nice?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a romantic city break in October, somewhere with lots to see and do and plenty of good restaurants.
I've narrowed the choice down to either Nice or Naples on easyJet... just wanted to get a few opinions on where you think would be better? Both look gorgeous and have similiar climates.
Thanks in advance!

nice out of season can be vry pleasant. we stayed at le-grimaldi
http://www.le-grimaldi.com/ and found it utterly charming with a great central location for restaurants etc. naples has a completely different vibe. really depends on what mood you are in i guess.0 -
Nice is a lovley place, I would recommend love it. Close to Monaco too if you wanted a day out or Cannes etc.
To be honest dont know much about Naples only that you do need to be careful there- dont go down side streets etc. I know of a few people who got mugged there.New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
No place in the world that can compare ♥ 2nd October 2010 ♥0 -
Nice is good for Cannes
Naples is good for the Amalfi coast
Cannes or Amalfi sounds a little bit more romanticPosts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Another vote for Nice. You can easily go either way along the coast by train - to Cannes & Antibes in one direction, or to Monaco & Menton in the other.0

Nice -gets my vote.Weather should be lovely in October. Cannes,Monaco,Menton all easy to get to on bus or train. Museums to see, gardens to gaze at. The only place I loathe is Naples - had the scooter drive by and took my handbag with me attached to it down the road - scarey. Saying that though, from Naples took the ferry over to Ischia which is a lovely island to spend some, then over to Capri, on to Sorrento,Tivoli,Pompei all very lovely.SallyD0

Love Nice too, very good and cheap transport system. Lots of different places to visit by train or bus. Villa Franche, lovely sandy beach about three four stops on train. Monaco about twenty five minutes also by train worth a visit to admire the Yachts, or for a glass of vino or a coffee in Cafe de Paris, to watch the world go by and see how the other half live. Also a visit to the Palace.
Beautiful long Promonade del Anglaisein in Nice for a walk or coffee on the beach.
Visit the hill top town of Eze by bus or if you are feeling energetic take the train and you can make the climb and enjoy the fantastic views, the climb takes about one and a half hours, depending on your fitness level. If you don't feel like walking back down again you can take the bus.
You can also take the train over the border to Italts Ventimellia or San Remo.
Apparently very good markets there for quality leather goods. Check at train station or tourist office, can't remember which day marked is on think its Friday.
My son visits Italy regularly and hates Naples. He says its a crime ridden dangerous city.0 -
Naples is a dreadful place, witness the garbage collection (or should that be lack of collection?) there for an example. Avoid at all costs. From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -
I havebeen to naples many times but not for about 5 years. I really dislike teh place, its dirty and I never ffelt safe there. I lovr nice have been many times and would go again the whole area is nice.
Has to be Nice hands down for me. Or corsica is you are looking down that way is amazing!Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0 -
Naples was the pits but flying there and visiting Sorrento would be a good choice. Went there in October (sunny but cooler in the evenings) with the OH a couple of years ago - nice "old town" area with plenty of good restaurants and well postioned for day trips to Pompeii, Vesuvius, Ercolano (on the Circumvesuviana train) , Capri by boat and Amalfi by bus. I'd give Naples itself a miss though.0

I think there is a France/ Italy divide a bit like the Hugh Grant / Colin Firth divide. Ask most people whether they prefer Italy or France and very few will say that they are both lovely, even though that is of course the truth.
I'm def veering towards the Italy side myself, although think the amalfi coast will be more romantic than Naples itself.0
