I recently changed landlines to Siemens Gigaset AL185[2 handsets]but cannot get Martin's over-ride no's to work for calling France and New Zealand - the majority of my calls.

I call to a French mobile most often and do all the no's exactly as I have always successfully done[I re-check rates each week and make any necessary changes on my mob.]

These days, what repeatedly comes through is a recorded msg saying 'You would like to make a call to...France. Please enter the country code after 00.....'

I always HAVE done...it's so annoying. Is there something in these new handsets that is preventing my using the cheaper options?

Thankyou for any help.

Do you get this message with a 'normal' phone plugged into the same phone line as the Gigaset, ot only on the cordless? If the latter, it may be that it is too clever by half - and there are configuration issues.

Instead of using 00, try the alternative - ' + ', as the Gigaset may handle this properly and let it go through without all the verbal interractions!

Hello Buzby & thank you for your lucid reply. The old handset is still plugged in elsewhere[not cordless]so I'll try it and report back by Friday.
I had wondered if new phone=d 'too clever', but this economy is essential to my small budget.
Hope you'll be around to read if I have any further probs.:o

    Hello Buzby,

I have a new handset and same problems i.e. can't make any o/s calls via Martin's alternatives.
How do I do your '+', as highlighted, please?

This problem happened to me and I traced the problem to non-recognition of the multi-frequency tones, when dialling your destination number. This can happen if you dial the destination number whilst the override message is still giving the outgoing message.

Some of the override services also give a continuous tone when you are expected to enter the destination number. The problem is that some phones do not have sufficient DTMF volume and any key presses are ignored!

Once you are connected to the override service, press '0' during a silent part of the call. If pressing '0' does not silence the call then press '0' again duiring a quiet part of the call.

Once your first '0' has been accepted you should find that you can dial the rest of the number.
