Never tell them you want to upgrade.....just tell them you want to cancel the contract reason would be can't afford it...it gives u 30 day for them to offer you something to attract you but don't agree to anything until last day or 2....then they would bound to offer you excellent offer.....
its the experience talking here....Titch0 -

Better then that (I have found) is to find a better contract with another company, mention the phone you want and the contract deal (you don't need to lie and say the phone you want is with the contract you want, just infer it is) then say that this is the reason your leaving.
You get put through to someone who will beg you to stay and bend things for you.
Last year (Jan 2008) I got myself a great deal this way: the newest phone was the Nokia N95 8gb, I checked, the cheapest any phone company were doing this phone was £35 a month. I said I was not happy to pay more then £20 for it and I had found a great deal for this. 3 offered me the phone, the line rental was £25 offered to me and I got 1100 minutes and loads (can't remember how much!!) of texts, plus £5 free downloads a month, free GPS and free internet for 3 months. (no comet vouchers tho- but it was over a year ago!) Only draw back was an 18 month contract- then I had the phone stolen and was spitting bricks- but for a good 3 months, I was happy!!0 -
I am currently with three & have been for the last 5 years, so have reached gold customer status. I wasn't given any vouchers for my last upgrade but was offered an amazing package. I currently get 750 minutes 150 texts, 50 video minutes, 50 picture messages and £5 worth of downloads, all for just £10 a month! can't say fairer than that! so ok, the phone that they sent me wasn't exactly top of the range, but i'm not bothered by having the latest model so i kept my old one & sold the new one one ebay for £60! not sure that three can do any better this year with their offer of an upgrade to me personally! :T0

Just to clarify, I did not need to say I was going to leave. I just phoned up, got through to upgrades, asked what upgrades where available, we spoke for a bit, then the bloke said that if I took the Sony Erricsson C510 (think it was this phone) I could have the same tarriff - Mix and Match 1100 for £20 (includes the lifetime loyalty discount of £7), and they would give me a £180 voucher for Comet.
In the past I have tried the angle of saying I was going to leave, but not sure it actually makes much difference. Its more to do with what deals they have on that day. For the last two years Ive got a good deal, each time on a Saturday when they've had a special promotion on.
Hope this helps.0 -
I actually genuinly tried to leave today- got talked into a new phone and contract for another 18 months (bashing head against wall now).
I wasn't offered any vouchers- but did take a downgraded deal. But got the next 3 months which would have been £26 a month down to £11.76 a month as apparently you never pay more then one line-rental as I was told today.0 -
Well done on an amazing deal, but this inconsistency re upgrades is the reason I'm leaving 3 after 5 plus years, and going to Virgin! I'm presently on the same deal as above, and paying £21pm! (that includes a £14 loyalty bonus) My contract finished last month, and Ive been trying to get a half decent deal out of them for past 3 weeks. I dont want a fancy phone, just more texts. They offered me the Mix and Match 1100 but for same price as on their website for new customers, and thats it. They then tried to make out it was a special deal and that it included a loyalty discount exclusive to me, so I was not happy to find out it wasnt! Even more unhappy when they tried to make me pay £80 for the handset that came with it, despite the fact its free on the website! They have since rung me apologising (only since I gave my 30 days notice!) and offered a one off payment of £10 to stay. When you try to tell them about deals other MSE'rs have got re upgrades, they deny they exist. I certainly wont hold my breath for any vouchers!
hi,i'm sorry to hear that three is treating u so unfairly for being a loyal customer. i have 2 different contracts with them, one for me & one for my partner, my partner has mix & match 300 which is £15 a month. & last year my mum had a contract out in my name - also mix & match 300 ( both my mum & partner had an electron card & three wouldn't accept them as payment, so i used my visa delta - hence everyone's contract being in my name!) i have been with three for a long time & have both contracts so maybe this is why i got offered such a good deal. i phoned up to cancel my contract, they tried to persuade me to stay but i refused, about two weeks later i received a call from them offering me the package stated earlier in this thread, i declined as i really wanted the N95. after careful consideration i phoned them back and said i would like to accept the offer they had put forward, the woman i was speaking to had no idea of the package i was talking about, after being passed through to various departments i finally got through to someone that could verify that the deal did exist! u should definately just cancel your contract and leave it a couple of weeks, three are sure to harass the hell out of you during this time but they should offer you a good deal in return!0 -

Not totally sure whats being advised here but just cancelling your contract could land you in trouble- don't just cancel without being outside the minimum date or having not yet entered it or used it- I tried to cancel my contract about 2 months ago, I was billed an extra £4 for not having a direct debit and was about to be billed for not paying anything and could have been liable for other things which come with bills of their own (eg court orders).
The thing I noticed with three is they never did call me to harass me once, they just issued me with the extra bill!
If they are at fault, don't take it into your own hands, either take it up with them, or contact Ofcom who will be able to advise and help, but just not paying is not a good idea!0 -

HA, HA!! I get it for £5 :j
£2.50 on top of that for data usage though...
I've spoken to 3 about this when they try and sell me an upgrade - they just laugh when I tell them what I get for a fiver0 -
how do you get all that for a fiver paulo?0
