I've had the google phone since January and I'm really pleased with it. All very intuitive and straightforward to use. I'm not familiar enough with the iphone to be able to compare them but for me the strengths of the G1 are
the design with slide out keyboard
large numbers of applications available on the market place - many of them free
ease of switching between applications0 -

I would recommend the Google phone , I own a HTC Magic
It's really modern and easy and looks fantastic , not to mention its bringing many phones into the next generation with many phones going to be released with android in the upcoming years.
It is a serious Iphone competitor and i bet in a few years it will be larger than the Iphone , Especially as many different manufacturers are going to release there phones with this operating system
I hope this helps and feel free to PM me if you like

I've also just got the HTC Magic. Cool phone lots of Apps for it, that can customise the way the phone works.
I'm just getting used to it - there are a couple of things I don't like, but then again, I've always had Nokia's and guess you generally get used to doing things in a specific way.
BIG issue for me is the lack of bluetooth data transfer.....I hope this gets sorted soon, as having to manually transfer over every contact I had from my N95 was a major pain in the butt!

I've got the G1 and am very pleased with it. My colleague has an iphone 3g which he is pleased with, so it's a matter of personal preference.
However, he pays £35 /month for 18 months, where I pay £24 for 12. Available applications are pretty much the same. On balance I would say that the iphone is more stylish, but the G1 is more functional with the slideout keyboard. Additionally, I am not tied in to using itunes access the content on my phone.
Also, if you have a gmail account the G1 hooks into it seamlessly for free - iphone has a similiar feature called mobileme I believe, but it is a subscription service.0 -

I found that it was fairly quick and easy to do it on my laptop by logging into my gmail account and adding the contacts there. The next time I opened the contacts on my phone they were all there.0 -
Hopefully the bluetooth file transfer problem will be sorted out on the next update
Android 2.0 Donut , Hopefully Vodafone will release it for all of it's HTC Magic customers. One more problem I have is Vodafone's Fair usage policy of 500mb , which is ok but not that good compared to 1 GB for other networks , Not Unlimited internet is it:dance: I am great , yes I am
