So I took the plunge and bravely installed IE 8 on my old XP computer
The result? opening a new tab makes the cpu jump to 100% for about 5 seconds and its crashed twice in 5 minutes
Anyone have any clue on changing settings so it might make it to only crashing every 10 mins?

No chance - IE8 is buggy browser given the number of sites that have trouble with it (Yahoo mail and google mail prime examples) - that is not to say its the only browser which does have problems.
Performance - depends on your pc spec - if its an old pc - well that might cause issues. - low memory usual stuff. Low spec is likely to crash it - or maybe you have spyware or some virus - but doubt that.
Just use firefox if you cant upgrade the pc.

Might do what that suggests - and try Reset.0 -
Start IE
Select Tools => Manage Add-Ons
Disable everything
Restart IE
Now see if IE works OK :-)
Then repeat the process but enable a single add-on at a time and see if it's stable.
Most of the add-ins aren't required - virtually anything aside from Flash isn't really required.
(Outside of that, thoroughly recommend the "upgrade" to FF or Opera)te audire non possum. musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0 -
Just turned it off now so might have a crack tomoz (Very rarely on to be honest)
Cheers for the replies
