My wife has a asus ee900 netbook which has been a pain since we got it!
Since last night when it downloaded the latest Avista free upgrade it has been playing up again.
When you type into anything like the Google search/ address bar etc the letters are mixed lower case and caps
I have uninstalled Avira and downloaded again from the computer active website. scanned the system which found 1 low level trojan (which is removed), but it is still doing it.
I am not sure if it is anything to do with anti virus.
Any ideas?

Before running any scanners clear out Cookies and Temporary Internet Files which IME is where malware tend to lurk.0

still doing it, tried http://www.malwarebytes.org/ but I could't get comp to start in safe mode. I've looked all over the internet but have not seen a similar problem.
I have noticed a couple of other keys are not working as they should, I am wondering if this is why the F8 key is not working, although I got the F2 to work.no debts0 -
Have you got an option to connect a keyboard at the back of the notebook? Most have one for this.
If so - just borrow the keyboard from your main computer and see how it goes.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I would try SuperAntiSpyware too. Use the free version. In conjunction with the other, should keep you clean:

Have you considered an alternative operating system? The alternatives to Windows are much less prone to infection, so an anti-virus application is usually unnecessary. My Eee 900 came with a customised version of Xandros which looks rather nice, is easy to use and boots in virtually no time at all. I've tried a few others - including the Windows 7 Release Candidate - but I always came back to Xandros afterwards. My wife has a asus ee900 netbook which has been a pain since we got it!
Recently though, I discovered Ubuntu Netbook Remix and have been using it ever since.

I have been thinking about doing something like this, but do not know how to get rid of xp etc. and do the correct procedure to set an other one up,
could someone set me in the right direction? obviously I am going to have to sort out the keyboard problem first.no debts0 -
From your symptoms it would seem that you have an intermittent hardware problem, which will have nothing to do with viruses and won't be fixed by a different operating system! See if you can get it looked at under the warranty...0

Try reloading some drivers

I had a problem with an MSI Wind U100. Only half the keys worked straight out of the box.
installed the intellitype drivers and has been fine since0
