Just signed up for the vodafone passport as I'm off to Italy next week was wondering if my sister -in-law who is on orange monthly mobile contract can use her inclusive minutes while in the UK to ring us in Italy as it's free for us to receive calls with the promotion, thanks in advance.

it would be free for you to receive them but not sure if it would be free for her to make them.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

Yes she can. Your mobile is still treated as if you are in the UK.0 -
yeah like jem16 said, your sister in law is still going to be calling a UK mobile number so she won't be charged any extra.0

but might be better for your sister in law to take out a vodafone pay as you go simcard and add "my family" to it for £5 per month can call you and 3 other ppl for free (and they can call each other as well for free) but you cant call them back for free with it whilst in Italy ;-( (u can still accept their calls for free through.) That is what we are going to use next month ourselves cause my wife mum is currently in Italy as well0

You really do need to check this assumption before posting it across several threads, and discuss any nuances of interpretation with Vodafone customer services in order to make sure.
Does it mean only UK Vodafone users can be added to a group, or does it mean only while those phones are in the UK, which is what it says?

8. Vodafone Family applies to voice calls to nominated Vodafone mobile phones within the relevant Vodafone Family group within the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland only and excludes roaming calls, video calls, calls to premium rate numbers, Vodafone voicemail and all data transfers (including text messages).0 -

Umm Redux, maybe you should check. (I know ppl who have done it and spoken to them.) Just did not use it myself cause of the 75p connection fee which wont be applicable from 1st June. (did do it couple years ago myself but not a long term thingy.) If I have passport. I nominate your number as one of the family number. You add passport, you go aboard, I call your number and I dont get charged. You cause you are on passport only pay 75p or from 1st June you will pay nothing. "BUT" cause you are aboard you cant use the "my family" to call me back and not pay. That is what that term is on about. Cause remember the whole point of roaming (a basic princple that nearly all networks around the world follow) is that the caller do not pay extra to call a mobile that is roaming cause it is felt it is unfair to charge the caller when they might not know. But it is fair to charge the roamer cause he / she have a choice to accept the call / make a call.
But just in case Redux make other comment will clear other thing to make it very simple for everyone
"all simcards have to be "UK BASED". Ie your family / friend can not get an Italian / Australian., etc.. simcard and you add that number to my family to make calls to it. So other person at the other end would need two simcards (one UK one local) if want ppl she meet in the actual country to be able to call her cheap (well at least cheaply.)
One way round it through is one could get a VOIP number in the country living, and have it divert to the UK mobile, which will than recieve the call for free (you have to pay the divert cost to mobile number through) but can get that for about 5p a minute. Depending on what country etc.. The other person can use the vodafone sim to make local calls and be charge as if were in UK (minus my family option.)0
