I cannot imagine how a field of coos peacefully chomping grass can use more energy than a huge shed full of mechanical gubbins.

hmmm a local farmer. i hadnt thought of getting milk this way hahah , now to find one0

Just the local farmer who did the maths.
One man's sums - who presumably hasn't any experience of farming organically - I wouldn't base an argument on that.
I do agree with you that local is good if you can tell how green the local farmers are. If I lived next door to a farm with chemically-soaked crops and poor animal management, nothing would persuade me to "buy local".
One good thing about the increase in farm chemicals is that farmers are getting better at reducing chemical use - better general management and more targeted use.0 -
I know it's in their interest to say this but I'm sure they have the figures to prove it - https://www.soilassociation.org/Whyorganic/Climatefriendlyfoodandfarming/Energyuse/tabid/580/Default.aspx -
"Overall, UK organic farming is about 26% more energy efficient per tonne."0 -
What about supermarket organic milk - is that guaranteed organic ? Or is it one of those smartass arrangements where it says "our cows enjoy the nice fresh air and sweet grass" ...and then you find they can see it from inside their barns and thats it ?!0

If it has the logo of one of the organic certification bodies on it, it has to be organic or someone is breaking the law.0
