This explains the differences in organic milk production compared to non organic herds. All land that the herds graze on HAVE to be tested for up to 3 years prior to being grazed by an organic herd to ensure that they are pesticide free - up until that point they can label their goods organic in conversion but cannot label them with an organic label.
I only buy organic milk - with the latest news that there is a new strain of MRSA in dairy herds that can pass through milk, I feel that the cost has been justified. Waitrose however are the only supermarket which sell what I term to be "proper" milk, which is not homogenised. Homegenisation prolongs the shelf life of the milk but has been shown to damage the cell walls of blood vessels in clinical trials :eek:Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -
We havent got Waitrose. I drink an awful lot of milk..0

Sounds silly, but organic milk tastes nicer. Even when I don't know if it's organic or not (funds not always allowing for the organic and I don't always buy the milk or make the tea)I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

yes, organic milk does taste nicer and, I think, fresher. Then it leads me to a thought that organic milk is almost the same as fresh milk, but it's fresher.0

In times like this I cant afford the food bill to go UP - I will need to go and check the difference in price. I was ok with it until I read of the MRSA thing, it might be as bad as BSE.
There's only two of us but we use 16-18 pints a week.

Just a note on organic products. They take more energy per unit food to produce.
So you can be 'green' or 'organic'. Not both.
I prefer the milk form the farmer down the road. It's not organic, but it's local and non homogenised.0 -
I'm not interested in being green abaxas. Just in looking after our health. I am bad. I know this0
