Hang on, Why should he open a PayPal account? He specifically said bank transfer in his auction. Surely it's your fault for not reading the payment methods that the seller accepts before bidding.

I wouldn't recommend sending cash abroad by any means.

I think you're missing the point. PayPal wasn't an accepted method of payment. It will cost you extra to do a bank transfer but perhaps it would have paid you to have actually read the whole auction properly before bidding. Yeah it's free to open a PayPal account but the seller shouldn't have to do that.

This may be really stupid, but what about a travellers check, made payable to the vendor?

You can't insure cash in the post so i wouldn't recommend sending cash. you might just have to pay the bank transfer and call it an expensive lesson - read all the terms and conditions before you bid.

Either pay, and be out of pocket, then slap yourself for not reading the listing properly

Travellers cheques are only secure because you sign them when you collect them at the bank, and you sign them again when you cash them. So two different people cannot use the same travellers cheque.

Well yes, that's how TC's work. But if they've been signed in those 2 places, and made payable to a specific person I wonder how easy it would be for yet a third person to cash them or pay them into a bank account. Just so I'm making myself clear, I sign them "jenniferpa" at the bank, sign them again "jenniferpa" and fill out the payable line to "vendor". Could "thief" cash them or pay them into an account?
