T-Mobile Solo plans.
Options
I was very disappointed to find out that voicemail retrieval is charged extra with these plans, even if you have inclusive minutes remaining.
When signing up for the plan via the website, under the plan details, it specifically says that once your inclusive minutes and texts are used up the following costs will apply including voicemail at 12p/minute.
In addition under the legal stuff you need to know, there is further information on the plan, which again fails to state that a key part such as voicemail calls will be charged extra.
With the solo fixed plan, you will need to make allowance for voicemail calls, otherwise you may find yourself unable to retreive voicemails.
I personally feel so aggravated by it, that I will be cancelling my contract with them at the end of the first month. I had only stayed with them cause I didn't want the hassle of changing over.
So if you’re thinking of signing up for the Solo or Solo Fixed plan be aware, that you will be charged for voicemail, oh yes and also if you need to speak to an advisor via the 150 facility there's a charge for that too.

O2 simplicity - voicemail is included free of charge. Go for it :-)0

I just turn voicemail off. Voicemail is generally for the benefit of other people, who want something from you0

Workaround -
I am on t-mobile Combo plan - moved from o2 end of May.
Voicemail charge was going to cause me a problem - but what I found is that if I ring my own number from the mobile - I get to listen to the voicemail and the minutes used are taken from the monthly allowance (providing there is any).
And I also checking online t-mobile account and I have not been charged for voicemail calls (effectively my own mobile number).
It was quite amusing when I was porting my number to t-mobile, I was speaking to a nice lady at t-mobile and I asked about the voicemail charge. She said its 12p a minute and I said I heard this and that. She would neither confirm or deny that ringing your own mobile number would mean that your monthly minutes are used for voicemail. She was not allowed to say, it was funny. T-mobile should come out and tell the customer outright to be honest.0 -
Hi.
I can confirm what hotkee says. I have been calling my own number to retrieve my voicemails for over 2 years and have not been charged, apart from it coming out of my inclusive minutes. I am on a flext 35 tariff at present and it does not include free voicemail retrieval.
HTH all the best Si0 -
Nice work around that, I will give it a try.
I'm still going to end my contract with them and move my phones unlimited internet over to O2, I already get enough minutes and texts off them.
I currently am half way through my 18 months O2 contract, but decided to stay with T-Mobile as well, as my phone number is connected to so many things, such as work/bank other companies, not to mention everyone I know.
The voicemail charge has just annoyed me so much, I may as well save about £15 extra a month by having everything on 1 phone, instead of 2.
Looking at a further 2 sections on the T-Mobile website regarding their Solo plans, I'm still to find anywhere where it makes clear that voicemail is not part of your inclusive allowance.0 -
Solo inclusive minutes and texts are from the UK to all UK mobiles and numbers starting with 01, 02 & 03 at any time. This doesn't cover Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. Calls to 150 are also not covered by your allowance. The 150 service is free if you only use the automatic self service options but you'll be charged a total of 25p if you select the option to speak to an advisor.
That basically tells you that voicemail doesn't come from your allowance as it isn't an 01, 02, 03 or UK mobile number.0 -
My voicemail is a mobile number though, starting with 07953.
It also specfically says that once my inclusive allowance is used amongst other things, that voicemail is charge at 12p/min.
If voicemail isn't included in the inclusive allowance, then it should state that, or it shouldn't be included under the once your inclusive minutes is used section. It should be highlighted along with the 150 infomation, if anything.
It really doesn't matter now anyway, as T-Mobile will be losing my 9 years worth of business with them once the contract finishes in a few days time, as well as losing my £20 a month I've been paying for there mobile broadband, for which 3's 15gb for £15 is far more generous and less expensive.0 -
Brilliant tip Hotkee!0

Well, well, well, got an email this morning to my follow up email about the information being misleading on the website.
Thanks for your email xxxxxx, telling me that you're not happy with information provided in the last email and also letting me know that it's not mentioned on website as well. I'll let you know about this.
I've checked the website and I can see the same information. I'm sorry for the mis information provided. However, it's due the changes in the billing policy of T-Mobile as well the tariff changes in the year 2007 that voicemail will be charged outside of the allowance.
I've passed the information to the concerned department and it will be updated very soon on the website that voicemail will be charged outside the allowance.
For nay assistance simply reply back to this email with an alternate contact number and the best time to call you.
Or you can call us on 150 form your T-Mobile phone or 0845 412 5000 form a landline (Landline calls are charged at local rates if you're a BT customer, but if you're with another provider it may cost a bit more so do check). We're here from 8am until 10pm Monday to Friday and 8am until 8pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Thanks again for your email xxxxxx. I'm sure this must not be the answer you must be expecting so, please accept my sincere apologises once again.
If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to reply to this email. You might also find the answer by clicking here to see our most frequently asked questions.
